Job Description

The Senior Manager of Talent Recruitment is responsible for supervising recruitment selection for all teachers, school-based operations, and regional staff for Uncommon Schools’ 24 schools in Brooklyn, NY. This role directly leads and develops a team of three Selection Recruiters, one Associate Manager, and supports one Outreach Recruiter. They will build and maintain strong communications with the region’s 7 Assistant Superintendents, 5 Associate Chief Operating Officers, 24 Principals, 24 Director of Operations, and regional hiring managers.

They will serve on the Talent Recruitment Leadership team, contributing to strategic planning, process improvements, operations, and team culture. This role reports to the Director of Talent Recruitment.

  • Manages Brooklyn school-based selection team and maintains high expectations that ensure the growth and development of all direct reports:
    • Associate Manager, Brooklyn Selection/MS
    • Talent Recruiter, Brooklyn Selection - FLEX
    • Talent Recruiter, Brooklyn Selection ES
    • Talent Recruiter, Brooklyn Selection HS/Specials/School-based Ops
  • Partners with Brooklyn ASUPs, ACOOs, Principals, and DOOs to develop and improve Selection systems and processes that ensure a dynamic candidate experience from application to offer
  • Assesses interview selection processes (in-person and virtual) to strengthen candidate engagement and screening efficiently.
  • Serves on the Talent Recruitment Leadership Team to develop and implement team-wide initiatives that cultivate a caring and inclusive regional and team culture and improve the team and org-wide work quality and efficiency
  • Collaborates with Outreach Team regional partners to brainstorm effective strategies for attracting high-quality candidates to Uncommon Schools.
  • Provides direct support and thought leadership for Recruitment special project(s) and Strategic Planning
  • Collaborates with Director of Talent Recruitment (Selection) to support the regional and org-wide recruitment strategy
  • Analyzes data to identify trends and advise decision-making in real-time to adjust selection of outreach strategies and communicates
  • Ensures that there is reliable data to evaluate workstreams and proactively works across teams to resolve issues; communicating data synthesis effectively both in writing and through visualization to communicate results and recommendations
  • Provides coverage for direct reports’ workstreams (recruiting and hiring for Brooklyn ES, MS, and HS instructional, specials, and regional roles & Brooklyn School-Based Ops roles) as needed (during vacancies, PTO, leaves, etc.)

 

    Qualifications

    • 7 years of work experience consisting of at least 5 years of recruitment and 3 or more years in a supervisory role
    • Experience with change management on the organization level
    • Ability to learn quickly and take initiative in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment
    • Passionate about the mission of Uncommon Schools, and excited to build high-quality, diverse schools and Home Office
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills particularly when communicating with senior leaders
    • Excellent organization, time management, and follow-through; a high sense of urgency
    • Outstanding problem-solving and critical thinking skills and ability to use data to drive decision-making
    • Excellent people leadership skills; able to provide timely and actionable feedback to inspire and move direct reports to action
    • Ability to develop systems that achieve efficiency and scalability; can lead large scale workstreams
    • Bachelor’s degree required.
