About the Role

We are looking for a dynamic people leader to serve as our Senior Director of Talent Strategy! This position represents an exciting opportunity to impact the way the organization develops, engages, retains, and evaluates its people, crafting the experience of every Uncommon staff member. The Senior Director of Talent Strategy (SD) will collaborate with regional and organizational leadership to ensure strong performance management systems and to use talent data to drive organizational goals. This role will also be directly responsible for leading development and cultural initiatives for Uncommon Schools’ Home Office! They will lead a team of 3-5 staff members.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead the strategic vision for professional development for Uncommon Schools’ Home Office (including onboarding of new staff, the creation of skills-based professional development and management/leadership development programs)
  • Design our future talent management system (Workday) to support Uncommon Schools’ talent vision (including onboarding, performance management, goals, and leadership planning tools)
  • Work with senior leaders across Uncommon to implement cross-organization performance and talent management systems and surveys
  • Work in partnership with the senior leaders to design, gather, analyze, and report out on key talent metrics and recommend cross-organizational goals and benchmarks for staff engagement and retention
  • Partner with the Head of Talent and members of our total rewards team to ensure Uncommon has a strong employee value proposition
  • Work closely with our Diversity Equity & Inclusion and Senior School Leadership Teams to ensure that our performance and promotion processes are equitable and inclusive.
  • Lead strategic talent projects as determined by our Executive Team
  • Serve as a management/leadership mentor for members of our home office team lead cohort (made up of senior leaders of key Home Office teams and departments)

Qualifications

  • Dedication to the mission of Uncommon Schools
  • Experience managing (and matrix-managing) multiple high-performing individuals or teams
  • Three years of demonstrable experience building a talent strategy function, preferably within the education sector, or experience leading multiple high-performing schools with a focus on people and talent.
  • 10 years of general work experience
  • Outstanding strategic, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • A track record of leading for equity and social justice
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, able to influence and facilitate decision-making among multiple diverse parties and across functions
  • Ability to present effectively and persuasively to diverse audiences
  • Proven proactive problem-solving and ability to take initiative in a fast-paced, sophisticated, environment
  • Experience as an Executive Coach or running leadership/management development programs is a plus
