Job Description

The Senior Director of Total Rewards will have the opportunity to develop Uncommon School's compensation philosophy, practices, and procedures! They will partner with the Executive Team, Senior School Leadership Team, regional leadership, and our Talent Leadership Team to lead core compensation policies, programs, and processes! The person will also play a significant role in the analysis, design, implementation, and advancement of Uncommon's employee value proposition. The ideal candidate has experience building and driving towards a strong vision; deeply cares about organizational equity and the employee experience; is willing to do hand-on work to move projects forward; and approaches work with evidence and data-based inquiry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deploy, and lead compensation structures and job architecture, to ensure the achievement of equitable employee compensation for different employee groups across multiple regions.
  • Develop and lead year-end salary planning process, including budget allocation, as well as training for regional and school leadership.
  • Build a relevant market pricing process using internal and external benchmarks to ensure pay practices are aligned with organizational philosophies and federal and state requirements.
  • Develop and document systems and procedures to improve operational efficiency, guarantee adherence to organizational policies, and ensure equity and transparency of compensation practices.
  • Partner with Talent teams (Recruitment, HR, Talent Strategy), Finance, and others on a variety of projects including program design, analysis, budgeting, and implementation of new compensation and benefits programs as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison for total rewards related matters with other functional teams including Talent Strategy, Payroll, Finance, Operations, etc. and ensure relevant staff members are trained and knowledgeable on total rewards philosophy, processes, and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Deep compensation expertise proven through at least 6 years of increasingly responsible experience in compensation management and related processes and policies (e.g. payroll, time and attendance, talent/performance, etc.)
  • Experience and familiarity with all elements of total rewards including vendor and consultant management and the development of an equitable and inclusive Employee Value Proposition.
  • Ability to succinctly communicate analyses in a language understood by business leaders across multiple functions and levels within an organization.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in leading compensation data and systems to perform quantitative and qualitative data analyses with analytical tools, especially MS Excel.
  • Direct experience leading sophisticated lean project teams, preferably around process improvement and/or implementation, that involved staff members at all levels.
  • Attention to detail and a demonstrable track record to maintain a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced work environment
  • Consistently motivated to achieve success, marked by perseverance, humility and a positive outlook in the face of challenges
  • Experience leading compensation in organizations with multiple states or for multiple entities and/or experience working with K-12 Education is a plus
