Job Description

At Uncommon, our Directors of Special Projects (DSP) are drivers of school based projects and administrative support that enable our schools to flourish. The DSP is the primary owner of a variety of operations support tasks such as project management, external communication, student recruitment, event planning, compliance, technology support, and data analysis. 

As the Director of Special Projects: 

  • You'll implement and enhance the school’s administrative systems, culture, and routines.
  • You’ll communicate key updates and crucial logistics with stakeholders such as teammates, teachers, students, and parents. 
  • You'll develop and execute the strategy and implementation plan for school-wide projects, budgets, logistics and student recruitment.
  • You'll create informative slideshow presentations for staff retreats, community members, and/or the school board.
  • You'll coordinate staff events and prepare materials for staff workshops and professional development.
  • You'll gather and synthesize school performance data and create data presentations.
  • You'll write and edit letters, website content, and promotional materials (e.g., brochures, newsletters).

Qualifications

  • Passionate commitment to the mission of Uncommon Schools and investment in our vision for being an anti-racist organization.
  • Detailed-oriented, strong follow-through skills and ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
  • Digital literacy skills including Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Strong time management skills; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, maturity and ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues and community members.
  • Interest in performing a critical support role and the ability to excel in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, results-oriented environment.
  • Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in the face of competing demands and external pressures.
  • Prior experience working in schools and/or urban communities; relentless commitment to mission of educating urban students.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
