Uncommon Schools is a non-profit network of 55 outstanding public charter schools in grades K-12 across New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts. The School Social Worker is tasked to strengthen the Uncommon Schools community and family partnerships. The School Social Worker should also provide students with the necessary emotional and environmental support needed to engage students and keep them focused on learning. In this capacity, the Employee’s duties shall include:

• Provide direct clinical services for up to 30 students with counseling services in their 504s and IEPs, not including at-risk cases
• Participate in IEP and 504 meetings for students on caseload, noting progress and developing new goals when appropriate
• Conduct safety assessments and contact necessary collaterals
• Mandated reporting- New 51As in conjunction with direction of operations and/or principal, ongoing cases at discretion of social worker.
• Providing psychoeducation and child updates to families
• Providing ongoing trainings on psychoeducational for staff as needed
• Manage counseling referrals from school staff and from families
• Administering records, documentation, and other compliance activities
• Connect with outside counselors and teams to communicate updates and coordinate outside services
• As needed, at-risk counseling, meetings, or check-ins with students
• Evaluating impact and quality of external resources and services
• Participate and/or facilitate the Student Support Team, including writing incentive behavior plans, tracking student data, and communicating with families
• Seeks out professional development for areas of interest and areas of growth related to clinical practice
• Meet weekly with a clinical supervisor to receive coaching, training, and support
• Running as-needed student groups
• Support in the development of curriculum for social and emotional development/intervention with students
• Will participate in school duties as named by the principal and DOO on an as needed basis, focused on preserving therapeutic relationships to the greatest extent possible

• Drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom;
• Proven track-record of high achievement;
• Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player;
• Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred;
• Experience working with and in urban schools is highly preferred.
• Valid State Certification is helpful but not required;
• Belief in and alignment with Uncommon’s core beliefs and educational philosophy is non-negotiable.
