Role based in Brooklyn, NY

Position overview

The External Affairs Coordinator (EAC) is an essential member of the Uncommon NYC External Affairs team that support 24 schools in Brooklyn, serving almost 9,000 students. The EAC will support the Uncommon NYC External Affairs team in areas such as operational projects, data management, Board governance, and other special projects and duties as needed. They will foster relationships across Uncommon to advance external work and initiatives, including supporting the Uncommon NYC Board of Trustees, communications, coordinating events and team administrative responsibilities. The EAC reports to the Regional Senior Director of New York City and works closely with Brooklyn regional team leaders, school leaders, and central Home Office leaders. The position is based in Brooklyn.

Essential duties & responsibilities

The position requires an ambitious, detail-oriented, hard-working team player who approaches critical projects and small details with equal enthusiasm and efficiency.

Projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • General projects and task management activities to ensure that Brooklyn regional External Affairs Team stays on task
  • Support regional staff and Uncommon NYC Board of Trustees in ensuring effective governance
  • Build and manage project plan for Board of Trustees meetings, subsequent committee meetings, and necessary communications
  • Prepare key materials—both written and data-based—for Board meetings, including gathering and analyzing data from across project teams.
  • On-board any new Board members
  • Ensure Board is in compliance with state and local charter authorizer by tracking and submitting all necessary reports and meeting minutes
  • Distribute and analyze annual Board survey
  • Own meeting logistics and calendar invitations for all Board meetings
  • Build and disseminate regional communications to stakeholders (e.g. school leaders, families, etc.)
  • Support collaboration between External Affairs Team, other regional and school leaders
  • Arrange and coordinate school tours for visitor groups
  • Handle Brooklyn website updates
  • Provide general administrative support
  • Manage Regional Senior Director’s calendar and expenses
  • Disseminate meeting notes
  • Provide logistics support for events

Qualifications

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Commitment to the mission of Uncommon Schools
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; preferably in data analytics
  • Ability to build and maintain systems that improve organizational efficiency and remain outcomes oriented when supporting complex, projects driven by deadlines
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, flexible and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities, and a sense of humor in the face of opposing demands
  • High sense of urgency; demonstrated ability to successfully prioritize multiple projects concurrently
  • Able to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed
  • High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and PowerPoint, experience with Tableau a plus
  • Experience Required
    • Minimum two years of professional experience planning and leading large scale projects, working operations and systems creation, or other relevant work
  • Minimum Educational Level
    • Bachelor’s degree required
