Job Description

The Special Projects Coordinator/Director of Special Projects will support the school leadership team by completing various school-wide projects related to operations, school assessment and accountability, instruction, community relations and strategic planning. 

Standards and Duties (including, but not limited to):

  • Demonstrating a strong drive to improve the minds, characters, and lives of students both in and out of school.
  • Creating a positive, structured learning environment to support students in observing the school’s core values, high expectations, and code of conduct.
  • Communicating effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Engaging families in their children’s education.
  • Developing the strategy and implementation plan for school-wide projects.
  • Helping ensure the successful implementation and delivery of school-wide initiatives.
  • Creating a filing system for the server and paper documents and filing everything accordingly.
  • Creating school-based task lists. 
  • Assisting with student recruitment. 
  • Collecting school performance data and creating data presentations.
  • Writing/editing letters, promotional materials (e.g., brochures, newsletters), Web site content, etc.
  • Greeting families at student open houses or orientation. 
  • Organizing family events (e.g., Literacy Night, Graduation, etc.)
  • Planning and executing field trips for students
  • Organizing staff events and preparing materials for staff trainings.
  • Working with school leaders to ensure that all government and authorizer grant proposals and reports are completed on time.
  • Committing to continual professional growth, participating actively in all staff meetings.
  • Participating in an annual three-week staff orientation and training.
  • Serving as a source for instructional coverage when classroom teachers are unavailable.
  • Implementing curricula and activities to meet academic standards.
  • Creating a master calendar for the school.
  • Creating slideshow presentations for staff and Board meetings.
  • Copying and assembling binders for Board meetings and staff trainings.
  • Performing various administrative duties as required and assigned.
  • Performing other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Access;
  • Displays maturity and ability to work independently;
  • Communicates well with others and demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues and community members;
  • Enjoys working with children of all ages;
  • Detailed-oriented, strong follow-through skills;
  • Strong time management skills; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet tight deadlines;
  • Prior project planning experience preferred;
  • Prior experience working in schools and/or urban communities; relentless commitment to mission of educating urban students;
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
