Team Overview

The Data Analytics team informs Uncommon’s organizational strategy by performing thoughtful, rigorous data analysis to answer key questions in areas ranging from student academic performance to talent to college completion.  We are a dynamic, fast-paced team that delivers accurate, actionable data analyses and robust models that enable stakeholders to make the decisions that drive success for over 20,000 students.

Position Overview

As a member of Data Analytics reporting to the Sr. Director of Data Analytics, the Senior Associate Director will:

  1. Conduct and oversee analyses related to areas of strategic importance for Uncommon (e.g. student performance, talent)
  2. Create presentations, generate reports and communicate key findings that will inform decisions made by Uncommon’s senior leaders including the CEO, President, Chief Schools Officers, Chief Talent Officer and other members of the executive team
  3. Help determine the key questions that the team should prioritize and address through analysis
  4. Build sustainable structures, processes and systems to maximize the team’s impact across Uncommon
  5. Manage team member(s) – first on components of projects, and then assuming full responsibility for ongoing management and professional development of direct report
  6. Fulfill ongoing and ad-hoc requests for key metrics and other data from both internal and external stakeholders

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Reporting and Analysis

  • Support management in addressing strategic questions and informing decision making through the design, execution, and effective communication of rigorous data analyses
  • Manage multiple reporting & analysis workstreams, including detailing project tasks, owners, & timeline as well as tracking project status
  • Partner with the Sr. Director to create structures, processes, and systems that improve the replicability and reliability of the team’s analysis and reporting work as well as appropriate access across the organization
  • Collaborate with the Sr. Director to determine the key questions the team should prioritize and address through analysis, identify best analysis approach and methodology, and design ways to make insights and reports easily digestible, actionable, and impactful.

Data Knowledge

  • Become an organizational resource with strong knowledge of staff and student data from collection through reporting & analysis
  • Fulfill ongoing and ad-hoc requests for key metrics and other data from both internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify best practices in data analysis, modeling, visualization and communication inside and outside of Uncommon

Team and Leadership/Management

  • Serve as a partner for the Sr. Director on all aspects of the team’s work and direction including team objectives & vision, team culture, team structure, and ongoing support & development of team members
  • Lead improvements of team processes with a focus on replicability and automation
  • Manage team member(s) – first on components of projects, and then assuming full responsibility for ongoing management and professional development of direct report

Working with Data

  • Demonstrated ability and experience working with analytics and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau)
  • Strong knowledge of statistical methods (e.g., regression analysis, modeling)
  • Advanced skills in data manipulation & transformation (e.g., expert in MS Excel or proficient in R or Python)
  • An obsessive attention to detail and data accuracy

Project Management

  • Experience in successfully managing high-stakes, complex projects
  • Superior relationship/stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent organization, time management and follow-up skills

Critical Thinking and Communication

  • Ability to disaggregate problems and structure complex issues
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex data, analysis, and insights in a clear, easy to digest, and actionable way

Minimum education level

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master’s degree in quantitative field preferred

Experience required

  • 4+ years of consulting and/or data analysis experience preferred
  • Experience managing one or more direct reports preferred
  • Multiple years of experience manipulating and structuring datasets for analysis
  • Background in statistical analysis (i.e., familiarity with regression analysis and statistical modeling)
