Job Description

Join us in building the backbone of Doka’s next-generation IoT ecosystem. As our IoT Platform Architect, you will design and drive a unified IoT Platform that connects everything from simple sensors to advanced automation machinery and robotics. Your architecture will ensure scalability, reliability, and rapid onboarding of new IoT products—powering the future of Doka’s digital portfolio.

You bring our IoT Platform vision to life: defining long-term strategy, establishing standards, and shaping reusable components, while also being hands-on during the platform’s build-up phase. Working with product teams, cloud engineering, hardware/firmware experts, and external partners, you will influence the entire IoT lifecycle from device to cloud.

If you enjoy combining architectural depth with practical implementation and want to create a platform used globally across multiple products, this role offers both scale and impact.

Your Tasks

  • Define and own the long-term architecture of Doka’s unified IoT Platform, meeting key non-functional requirements.
  • Actively contribute to early implementation work as the IoT Platform team forms and grows.
  • Consolidate existing IoT products into shared services, standards, and reusable platform components.
  • Design scalable event-driven ingestion and communication patterns (Azure Event Hub, Event Grid, Kafka).
  • Shape device and machine lifecycle management: provisioning, identity, telemetry, OTA updates, diagnostics.
  • Establish platform-wide guidelines for connecting sensors, industrial devices, automation systems, and robotics.
  • Provide architectural leadership, mentoring, and cross-team alignment without formal reporting lines.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience as an IoT Architect, Platform Engineer, or Cloud/Device Ecosystem Architect in production environments.
  • Hands-on expertise with Azure IoT Hub, IoT Edge, secure device connectivity, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with Azure Event Hub / Event Grid or similar streaming technologies (Kafka).
  • Understanding of telemetry flows and time-series data storage (e.g., PostgreSQL + Timescale).
  • Knowledge of IoT connectivity protocols such as Bluetooth Mesh, LoRa, and MQTT.
  • Experience with DevOps & Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Bicep, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills; ability to guide teams and articulate complex concepts.
  • Hands-on mindset paired with strategic thinking—comfortable architecting and building in equal measure.
  • Fluent English and solid German language skills to work effectively in an international environment.
