Job Description

The National Yard Operations Manager, reporting to the Head of Operations, USA, develops and oversees efficient yard operations across DOKA USA stockyards. Key responsibilities include logistics, reconditioning, pre-assembly, hydraulics, machinery, and inventory control, with regular on-site involvement. The manager supports branch management with Strategy and One-Year Plans (OYP), leveraging KPIs to drive performance. They identify and onboard yard operation talent, ensuring continuous development through training and upskilling. Additionally, the role ensures reliable yard operations processes to meet customer commitments.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify yard process inefficiencies and support corrective measures.
  • Assist Branch Operations in developing their OYP and breaking it down into strategic yard operations targets using SMART goals, as well as define ideal skill sets for branch YOP leaders and facilitate upskilling, resource planning, time management, and commercial competence.
  • Drive national projects like “Always Inventory Ready” and “Accelerated Return Processing" and monitor App usage KPIs and support the National Operations Team in rolling out digitalization initiatives (Apps).
  • Review monthly branch quality self-checks (YQC app) and perform periodic audits. Assist in maintaining high material quality by implementing corrective measures. Ensure thorough knowledge of GS (Quality Standards) and WI (Work Instructions).
  • Identify opportunities for product portfolio optimization and support organizational divestment decisions and review monthly productivity and provide improvement recommendations.
  • Teach yard operations and logistics basics of DISCOS, emphasizing the connection between physical movements and system bookings (journals) to achieve optimal inventory management and data quality.
  • Share knowledge and resources to ensure branches adhere to DOKA SOPs, including recurring adjustment bookings (e.g., consumable bookings, reconditioning orders) and assisting with material cycle and inventory counts, including yard preparation, yard mapping, and updating count sheets.
  • Travel to various branch locations to lead reconditioning, return processing, and order-pulling efforts as necessary.
  • Promote budget awareness and its consideration in YOP decision-making.
  • Oversee tracking of pre-assembly production figures across all branches and create a centralized database. Utilize historical data for better capacity planning and scheduling, and update the FS manual.
  • Oversee the Certify Welder Program, maintaining quality, process, and workstation standards.
  • Provide content and data for Operational Jour Fixe calls to discuss improvement opportunities and advocate for DOKA USA YOP needs in leadership meetings.
  • Develop a recurring tasks list for YOP leadership and coach branches on organization-building depending on their business maturity level.
  • Facilitate and control YOP-related instructions from Group Management, including process changes, material quality, modifications, and inspections.
  • Maintain forklift and truck fleet records, aiding in building an investment plan.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Manager USA to ensure all staff and temporary workers are properly trained and certified to operate equipment and execute tasks in accordance with applicable rules, handbooks, and work instructions, reinforcing our safety culture.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Extensive travel required, with longer stays at branch locations (up to 60% of the time) to assist with material management and workflow as needed.
  • Participate in facility/equipment management meetings as required.
  • Perform other tasks/projects as assigned, including participation in company committees and teams.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required. Degree in Engineering, Economics or Business a plus.
  • Minimum 4 years hands-on experience in the industrial, commercial, construction or building material industry required, or proven experience in Doka yard management and excellent DISCOS knowledge. 
  • Ability to work independently and achieve results with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess excellent organizational and prioritization skills navigating a fast-paced work environment that still requires high attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand and comply with building/safety codes and OSHA requirements.
  • Flexible and willing to both lead others as well as perform hands-on work as needed.
  • Strong computer literacy using MS Office. Working knowledge of AutoCAD a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills including an excellent command of English (speaking, reading, writing). Spanish and German language skills a plus.
  • Qualitative abilities including strong analytical skills, technical proficiency and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Willing and able to learn new products, concepts and techniques.
