Job Description

The Safety Manager manages all aspects of Safety throughout Doka North America. He/she will have direct
accountability for developing, implementing and managing the company’s safety programs. The Safety Manager must have extensive practical knowledge, relevant work experience and continuing education in Commercial Construction safety. This position reports to the CEO and although this position will be based in the National Office in Little Ferry, New Jersey, the role will require extensive travel to the branch locations. 

Responsibilities 

  • Design, develop, update, maintain, coordinate and conduct all safety training programs. Ensure Doka and OSHA safety standards and policies are implemented, understood and consistently complied with.

  • Monitors training effectiveness ensuring compliance with Doka and OSHA standards and regulations.
  •  
  • Understands and implements OSHA safety requirements in North America. Ensures that each
     branch maintain a safe and compliant yard and office.

  • Implement proper record management system for documenting safety meetings and trainings, workers compensation claims management and OSHA compliance reporting, etc.
  •  
  • Throughout the branches performs frequent safety audits and yard/office inspections to ensure proper use of Doka equipment, PPE, training and compliance with all OSHA and Doka safety requirements. Complete safety checklists identifying safety violations and recommend corrective action.

  • Documents and prepares written reports of any violations and/or unsafe work practices to branch management for immediate corrective action.

  • Subject matter expert with extensive knowledge of applicable Local, State and Federal safety related regulations ensuring compliance at the branch level.

  • Conducts incident, near miss and accident investigations; identifies key injury and/or safety trends and communicates findings to management.

  • Performs job/yard/office hazard analyses as needed to ensure proactive safety planning.

  • Establish and implement proper fire prevention, evacuation and emergency preparedness procedures.

  • Investigates all incidents and generates proper reports, maintain all job safety records and conduct and actively participate in regular safety meetings.

  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, technical advice and expertise to Managers and Employees toward achieving an injury free environment.

  • Manages workers compensation claims, ensuring claims are handled properly, efficiently and on a timely basis.

  • Implement initiatives and safety awareness throughout the company.
  •  
  • Plan, conduct and document branch/office safety meetings to establish standardized procedures. Issue meeting minutes, feedback and recommended action plans to appropriate branch/senior management. Follow-up on corrective action effectiveness.

  • Assesses current practices, program, processes, training and policies, identify deficiencies and recommend action plans for improvement. Capable of identifying known/potential exposures and recommend and implement immediate corrective measures to mitigate risk.  

  • Extensive overnight and drive travel as required. Able to work a flexible schedule to meet business needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health or related preferred
  • Minimum 5 years recent Safety/ Safety Operations management experience preferably in the commercial construction (formwork, civil engineering preferred)
  • OSHA 30 hour certification required
  • Expert Trainer OSHA 500/502 certifications required
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) a plus
  • Evaluates situations and render appropriate decisions without the need for immediate supervision 
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, HazCom. 
  • Effectively able to influence others and work collaboratively to accomplish goals. 
  • Previous experience working with Job Hazard and Job Safety Analyses. 
  • Relates well with others of varying skill sets and experience levels. Able to effectively give instruction, receive direction; perform activities that require instructing others, persuading, negotiating and at times confronting others and responding appropriately. 
  • Accepts and carries out responsibility for direction, control and planning
  • Facilitates projects and effectively manages multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills including an excellent command of English (speaking, reading, writing). Fluent in Spanish. Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively with all levels of management, employees as well as government agencies and officials.
  • Qualitative abilities including strong analytical skills, technical proficiency and effective problem solving skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Capable of developing statistical analyses for management 
  • Organized leader able to work effectively in a deadline driven, fast-paced environment.
