Job Description

Located in Wallingford, Ulbrich Stainless Steels & Special Metals has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Automation and Controls EngineerThis position is responsible for the technical programing and troubleshooting of all manufacturing equipment at Ulbrich’s Connecticut-based facilities.  The Automation and Controls Engineer will manage the day to day mechanical automation system activities and will provide technical expertise in identifying and resolving system issues.

Specific areas of responsibilities include:

  • Managing automated electrical systems ensuring production, quality, safety and environmental standards are met;
  • Partnering with Mechanical Maintenance Supervisors to ensure complete coverage of all equipment issues;
  • Working closely with production to schedule electrical/electronic preventive maintenance;  
  • Maintaining automated system replacement parts and materials inventory;
  • Determining and recommend improvements to the Preventive Maintenance Program;
  • Maintaining preventative maintenance, safety and regulatory automation records;
  • Investigating and solving automated equipment problems;
  • Assisting managers/departments on equipment needs and maintenance requirements; and
  • Participating in annual budgeting process on building/equipment maintenance expenditures.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have an Associate’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering plus a minimum of 7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.  Must have hands-on experience with the use of control systems, predominately computer-based, to control industrial machinery and processes. Strong functional knowledge of production operations, electrical/electronic troubleshooting, PLCs, computers, drives, flow meters, AGC and X-Ray Gauges, pneumatics, hydraulics, general mechanical equipment/building repairs and maintenance practices is necessary. Experience with parts inventory and computerized maintenance management systems; extensive knowledge of repair procedures and preventive maintenance is required. Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with all levels in and out of the company.  Project management and communication skills including the ability to prepare accurate and appropriate documentation and familiar with safety standards and requirements.
