Job Description

Located in Alsip, Ulbrich of Illinois, a division of Ulbrich Steel, seeks a Manager of Supply Chain, reporting to the General Manager. Primary responsibilities will include managing processes and objectives for the economical use of raw materials in a manner that aligns with established strategic, quality, revenue and profit objectives. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with the GM, sales and others on purchasing and material planning inventory levels and business projections;
  •  Analyze, define, and recommend optimum min and max inventory levels; 
  • Establish and monitor inventory turns and levels to achieve company objectives and customer needs;
  • Prepare pricing, determine quantities to order, and place orders with due consideration given to product requirements, quality, capabilities, service, capacity, policy distribution of business, and other factors;
  • Meet with suppliers to build relationships and to understand lead times, market conditions and to handle claims;
  • Participate in strategic development meetings with customers on inventory management and material requirements;
  • Maintain effective liaison with quality control, inventory control, engineering, manufacturing, sales, production control, and other departments to meet their requirements, present alternatives to reduce costs or to expedite deliveries, coordinate procurement process with their requirements, or on other matters;
  • In conjunction with metallurgy resources, recommend use of substitute materials in lieu of purchasing additional materials; and 
  • Responsible for ensuring achievement of established material commitments by supplier, item and budget; perform follow up and expediting to ensure material delivery (including offshore logistics).

Qualifications

Individuals must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or supply chain management, and a minimum of 7 years of related purchasing/supply chain experience, including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity. Experience with procurement of specialty metals and high volume material orders is a plus, along with APICS or CPM certification. Applicants must possess strong negotiations skills, strong business/financial analysis acumen, and have excellent communication skills for successful interface with suppliers, customers and individuals at all organizational levels. Must be proficient with MS Office Suite (particularly Excel) as well as related systems technologies (i.e. ERP, MRP). Occasional overnight travel is required.
