Job Description

The HR Manager, reporting directly to the SVP of HR, Brand + Culture, is integral to the growth and well being of the business. The HR Manager will lead and direct all routine functions of the HR Department including administering semi-monthly pay, recruiting, health benefits, leave, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and enforcing company policies and practices. The HR Manager serves as a strategic advisor to the SVP of HR, Brand + Culture, and senior management in supporting their teams. They are a guardian of UBQT culture, a friend of the bottom line, and a trusted advisor to employees and managers alike.

Core Responsibilities

  • Translate business strategies, objectives, and challenges into appropriate HR initiatives  
  • Oversee the daily workflow of the department while also directing regular audits of our systems and files
  • Represent and articulate UBQT Values while striving to cultivate a strong company culture 
  • Design, diagnose, and improve processes throughout the employee lifecycle to enable Ubiquity to scale 
  • Conduct recruitment efforts for all exempt, nonexempt, and temporary workers; edit and place job ads; work with hiring managers to screen and interview candidates; conduct reference and background checks; draft and extend job offers; conduct new-employee orientations; manage ATS (SmartRecruiters)
  • Implement and annually update the compensation program; conduct annual salary surveys (Payscale); monitor the performance management program and revise when necessary (15Five)
  • Build out documentation of SOP’s, recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the P+C department
  • Maintain HRIS + Payroll system (Paylocity) and work closely with Accounting to administer semi-monthly, multi-state payroll. Set up tax accounts when we hire someone living in a new state
  • Manage our benefits programs in partnership with our benefit broker (NFP). Lead Open Enrollment
  • Oversee employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations
  • Maintain company organization charts and employee directory
  • Stay connected to the competitive landscape, including trends in human resources, policies, procedures, benefits, leaves of absence, diversity and inclusion, company culture, and compensation
  • Oversee and develop our People + Culture Generalist and our Office + Culture Manager
  • Act as Plan Sponsor for company 401(k) plan
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.

In command of technical HR knowledge in addition to the behavioral components of HR practice. 

Organizing - Capable of managing multiple priorities and thrive in a deadline-driven environment with frequently changing priorities. Coordinates ideas and resources to achieve goals.  

Communication - Use of appropriate and effective language used for a given situation and actively engages in conversations to understand others’ message through listening, speaking, and writing. 

Culture - Applies a knowledge of mission, values, resources, systems, and business strategies to find solutions that best serve the organization and its diverse employees.  

Integrity - Ability to earn others’ trust and respect through honesty and high standards of quality control that promote professionalism, accuracy and accountability to minimize operational risk. 

Skills + Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in HR with a solid Generalist foundation
  • PHR, SHRM-CP or similar professional credential required
  • A bachelor’s degree in HR or related field
  • A desire to manage and promote a culture program and to provide unique opportunities for employee engagement with Office + Culture Manager
  • Experience managing a performance management and bonus program
  • Experience managing multi-state payroll preferred
  • Experience managing an onboarding program preferred
  • Experience leading voluntary and involuntary exits
  • Working knowledge of and ability to advise on California state law
  • Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to flex between working autonomously and as a team member
  • Project management experience
  • Track record of improving processes
  • Excellent follow through and communication through email and phone
