Job Description

Purpose

The Battery department is responsible for providing testing services for Battery/Module/Cell, including performance, life cycle, durability, abuse, and strip and rate.

This role is to support all types of Battery testing (including Performance, life cycle, durability, safety, abuse and environmental), working within a team of engineers and technicians to facilitate test activities.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Battery Operations Manager and working within the battery facilities team. 

  • Provide all technical support for the UTAC engineering team, preparing Battery test facilities to perform test activities according to customer requirements. 
  • Provide corrective and preventative maintenance on battery testing automation systems 
  • Develop and improve test schedules for battery testing automation systems 
  • Conduct investigations and prepares reports to support investigations on our in house automation systems 
  • Identify failures and suggest and design modifications to test systems 
  • Provide technical support and training for all battery testing team members 
  • Assure all instruments and chambers are calibrated and generating reliable data 
  • Organise and work with external equipment suppliers to ensure efficient repair and services work is conducted correctly 

Ensure all Health and Safety and quality procedures are adhered to.

Development of Risk Assessments, supporting the strong culture of safe working.

Apply continuous improvement methods to activities and facilities to ensure ever improving processes and test methods

Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC staff at all times

Work in accordance with and support the creation of new and existing processes and procedures

Working in accordance with ISO 17025.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Degree or equivalent in technical/electrical disciplines

Experience 

  • Must have experience using wiring diagrams and harness drawings 
  • Experience working with automation software (essential) 
  • Working with instrumentation including thermo couples, pressure transducers and battery cyclers
  • Should be familiar with test bed main controls including PID tuning, actuators and BMS
  • Battery testing environment familiarity (desirable)  
  • Experienced in CAN (Desirable)
  • Development and commissioning of test rigs and apparatus. 
  • A clear understanding and ability to assess relevant health and safety risks  
  • Selection and application of various types of instrumentation and of data acquisition systems.
  • Fault finding in controls systems 

Skills 

  • Sound, practical understanding of electrical principles and battery fundamentals, particularly in regard to relevant safety aspects.
  • Programming of automation or software controlled applications (essential)
  • Ability to utilise HV diagnostic tools such as multi meters, oscilloscopes and clamp meters with best safety practices
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Data analysis, interpretation and presentation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
