(senior) Scientist on Data Management and Analytics

 

Philips Research and Philips product divisions rely more and more on data management and data analytics techniques which are playing an important role in the new Philips products and services. The phases in data lifecycle management include data acquisitions, data cleaning, integration, analysis, interpretation and visualization. The candidate should have knowledge and experience to work with different infrastructures, tools and applications that support all the phases and be able to support the end-to-end data handling, management and analytics processes.

 

Your challenge

  • As a (senior) Scientist in the data management and analytics field you will:
  • Participate in research projects that address data analytics challenges
  • Provide consultancy wrt data management and analytics
  • Align & network with opinion leaders within Philips Research and the Business Sectors
  • Scout for new data management and analytics technologies by visiting conferences, universities, vendors and monitor the literature and Internet sources.
  • Explore, experiment and pilot in internal concept creation projects

 

Your responsibilities

An overview of your tasks:

  • Carry out industrial research in the data analytics field, enlarging relevant knowledge and bringing-in new knowledge;
  • Pro-actively make knowledge available for operational use within Philips Research and Philips, such as to contribute to successful transfers of research results to customers;
  • Keep abreast of technical, application and market developments in the relevant technological and industrial areas, showing interest in the business aspects;
  • Contribute to the definition of the departments research program;
  • Contribute pro-actively to a creative and inspiring working environment.

 

More specifically:

  • You perform independent research, provide consultancy, and participate/define projects in the area of data management and analytics. The results of your work are adopted by Philips Research or the Sectors, and are translated into successful products/services. You contribute to the strategy of the research departments.
  • You create technologies that ensure proper data management and data analytics functionality for Philips products and services. In addition you contribute to data management and analytics strategy within the Research program. You have a full understanding of the state-of-the-art and create original contributions. You address important challenges that come in at each phase of the data lifecycle management, from data acquisition, to preconditioning, analysis, interpretation and visualization. Further challenges include big data management infrastructures and techniques for specific domains within healthcare, lighting and consumer lifestyle as well as data analytics methods and algorithms.
  • External exposure (for example by means of participation to conferences and scientific publications) and external collaborations (for example with universities or in the context of European research projects) are highly encouraged.

 

Your team

The mission of the Smart Personal Spaces group is to provide Philips businesses with new product and service propositions specifically for consumers. Naturally these depend and relate highly on the “connected everything”, “smart homes”, structured and unstructured “big data” paradigms of today. Today’s examples are already visible like e.g. the Philips Lighting HUE system and its interconnects.

Naturally the Smart Personal Spaces teams up with other Research departments to participate in research projects to create innovative services, applications and solutions which are transferred to Philips sectors. It also creates strategies for the research program and delivers technology landscapes, prototypes and demonstrators. The group advances and extends the Philips Research competencies in the fields of highly accurate data analytics data management, signal processing and new data driven business model development.

Qualifications

  • A MSc or PhD in computer science or another relevant area
  • For the senior scientist we require at least 5 years of preferably applied research experience in the domain of data management and analytics, and affinity to the research way of working
  • Hands-on experience with data analysis techniques such as clustering, statistical analysis, graph analysis, pattern recognition, classifiers, recommenders
  • Good understanding of the data management and IT fields
  • Good programing skills as well as knowledge and experience with database management systems, tools for data integration, analysis, and data modeling
  • Experience with Matlab, C/C++ coding and different SQL and non-SQL databases as well as data analytics tools such as R, SPSS, WEKA, etc. is a plus
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong personal relationships at all levels, both internal and external to Philips Research; with customers, obtain their user needs and be able to transform those into practical solutions
  • Team worker in multidisciplinary and international settings, able to adapt quickly
  • Curious, proactive, fast learner able to quickly picking up new areas

Your employment contract will be concluded with USG Engineering or one of our Partner companies and USG Engineering will take care of Work and Resident Permits
