Company Description: 

The UK Government has established UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKIFS) Ltd., a subsidiary of UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), to lead the charge in delivering fusion energy through design and delivery of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) protype fusion plant. UKIFS is establishing itself, setting up the company, attracting talent, engaging with industry, developing a supply chain, and planning and constructing of the STEP prototype. 

Fusion energy, crucial for combating climate change and ensuring energy independence, is expected to be commercially viable by mid-century. The UK, led by UKIFS, aims for a prototype fusion plant, targeting first operations around 2040. UK Industrial Fusion Solutions Ltd. will lead delivery, collaborating with industrial partners and building a fusion supply chain with an estimated global sector value of £7tn per year. The salary for this role is £48,376 and onsite working is expected for 4 days per week

Employees of UKIFS can be based at either of our sites: West Burton, Nottinghamshire.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions. 

The Role

Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy as West Burton Site Environmental Manager in the field of fusion energy. In this role you will play a pivotal role in supporting the STEP Environmental Lead to ensure full environmental compliance at the site: overseeing and ensuring that all site characterisation and other activities comply with environmental regulations, standards, and best practices. 

Additional Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards. 
  • Identify and document any potential environmental hazards or breaches of compliance. 
  • Review Contractor work plans to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, standards and best practices. 
  • Ensure all site activities comply with local and National environmental laws and regulations. 
  • Prepare detailed reports on environmental performance and incidents, and communicate findings to the Site Manager and Environmental Technical Lead. 
  • Assist in the preparation of environmental compliance documentation. 
  • Provide guidance and advice to the site team(s) on environmental best practices and sustainability measures. 
  • Recommend and implement corrective actions to mitigate environmental impacts. 
  • Maintain accurate records of all environmental inspections, monitoring activities, and compliance reports. 
  • Ensure all environmental documentation is up to date and readily accessible. 
  • Provide guidance and advice to the site team(s) on environmental best practices and sustainability measures. 
  • Recommend and implement corrective actions to mitigate environmental impacts. 
  • Conduct training sessions for site personnel on environmental awareness and compliance. 
  • Promote a culture of environmental responsibility among all site workers.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an environmental role within the construction industry. 
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and standards. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent relationship building and in person communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Proficiency in using environmental monitoring equipment and software. 
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to various sites as needed
