The salary for this role is £52,293 (inclusive of a Market Premium Payment (MPP)) 

 

The Role

As the Quality Engineer, you will be supporting one or more significant projects such as STEP or LIBRTI for example, a £200m endeavour in fusion fuel capability development for the UK.

You will play a pivotal role in development and implementation of project specific quality assurance and control processes which will ensure that both the project and product meet the stated requirements; Providing expert advice and support throughout, maintaining regular interaction with and influence of the key stakeholders, including the project team and external suppliers.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Acting as the lead for the quality related project and operational activity. 
  • Developing Project Quality Management Plans covering both tangible (i.e. manufactured items) and intangible products (i.e. information/documentation/skills).
  • Establishing the project Quality Management System aligned to the existing policies, procedures and processes that ensure the project and products meet the quality expectations of the customer. 
  • Providing advice to managers and engineers on quality and technical matters, i.e. materials, bonding, specifications, codes, standards, inspection and testing etc.
  • Plan and manage inspections and surveillance activities on-site and at suppliers to verify product quality.
  • Plan, prepare and lead product quality reviews. 
  • Support the UKAEA process for identification and control of deviations and non-conformances.

Please be aware that travelling to external partners will be required.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • A degree or equivalent in an engineering/science discipline. (or equivalent experience).
  • Knowledge and experience of ISO9001 based quality management systems. 
  • Extensive experience of engineering project quality in a similar highly regulated industry. 
  • Demonstrable experience of managing quality assurance/control inspections within a workshop and/or manufacturing environment. 
  • Internal and external auditing.
  • Review and approval of internal and external documentation.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience of full project lifecycle from concept, design, engineering, procurement, manufacture, contractor/construction into operations. 
  • Knowledge and experience of industrial standards for fabrication and welding. 
  • Good understanding of NDT - MPI, DPI, UT & RAD 
  • Proficient in specifying Lifetime Quality Records content and approval of final packs. 
  • Experience in system quality level and component QA grading. 
  • Witnessing of FAT & SAT.
