UKAEA have an excellent opportunity for a Safety and Health (S&H) Business Partner to join the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Department, providing operational support in matters of industrial Safety and Health, working closely with UKAEA Department Managers to drive a proactive culture.

What will you be responsible for?

Reporting to the Safety, Health and Environment Group Leader you will be part of a team of safety and environmental professionals supporting the UKAEA`s growing, multi-site operations.

Key accountabilities include:

• Providing S&H expertise to staff and contractors within the business area to ensure statutory compliance.
• Helping develop S&H business are improvement plans.
• Supporting the business through monitoring and measuring S&H performance and recommending actions for improvement.
• Conducting audits and inspections of the business areas.
• Managing the S&H incident reports and leading investigations relevant to business area.
• Producing and presenting S&H performance reports.
• Leading the business area implementation of policies and procedures in support of the UKAEA`s ISO SHEQ certification.
• Provide the business area feedback on the revision of policies and procedures and the development of new material and approaches.
• Act as the link and engagement role in ensuring lessons learned in S&H are identified and shared where applicable.
• Lead as a technical expert developing and delivering training as required.
• Assisting members of the business area in the production of safety related documentation e.g., Risk Assessments, Work Control packs, Safe Systems of Work including the monitoring of their suitability and effectiveness.

Essential skills, experience and competence required

• Degree or equivalent in engineering or science related discipline
• NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent
• Chartered Member of IOSH or working towards CMIOSH.
• Experience of working in a high-risk industry such as nuclear, oil & gas, chemical engineering, construction etc.
• Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and through the production of written reports at all levels in the organisation.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to enable effective working relationships to be developed with people in a wide range of roles and levels of responsibility.
• Experience in carrying out audits and investigations
