About UCode:
UCode teaches young adults, 6-17 how to write software through an engaging project-based curriculum. Our learning campuses offer camps and class structures with individualized support from our certified instructors. Over the last four years we have transformed the experiences of thousands of students and are poised to have a significant impact with students across the region. Our students have gone on to work for the likes of Google and Facebook. We are backed by Bloomberg Beta and Idealab, among others - we are currently implementing a plan to expand dramatically over the next several years.
Job Description
We seek experienced, energetic senior instructors to inspire students in an after-school environment. You will be working with passionate students, using a curriculum designed specifically to propel them to create functional and meaningful software solutions. Our senior instructors provide the best possible customer service through: creating structure to ensure student success; establish meaningful relationships with your students; maintain positive interactions to inform parents of their child(ren)’s progress; and strive to support company initiatives for growth. This is your chance to make a significant impact on the trajectory of a young adult interested in computer science. This is a part-time, flexible position with the opportunity to work up to 30 hours/week.
Knowledge of coding and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science &/or Mathematics (or similar degree) is required to apply! You will be required to test out of our coding curriculum before you can instruct in one of our learning centers.
Some responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Teach kids from the ages of 6-19 how to code, empowering them by learning Computer Science.
- Provide a dynamic learning environment that effectively engages & facilitates authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
- Assist Center Director to maintain positive relationships with parents and students that uphold high standards of excellence in operations and customer service. We all must work together to provide the UCode Experience and deliver results!
- Coaching and development of peer instructors that fosters a continuous learning environment.
- Support center growth by: administering trials; working camps and other promotional events; and participate in general center maintenance (including opening & closing of center).
- Provide assistance in effectively scheduling staff sessions to increase company efficiency
- Continued professional development - develop/learn new pedagogies to increase student achievement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Mathematics is required, but we are open to Bachelor's degrees in related fields if you're the right candidate; Master's degree or PHD is a bonus!
- Must be knowledgeable and understand various coding languages- minimum of Scratch/HTML/CSS. (JavaScript, Java, Elm, and/or Haskel a plus).
- Relevant teaching experience and/or leadership skills preferred, but not mandatory
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to build productive business relationships
- Must be independent and a self-starter who strives for personal and team growth
- You possess a relentless passion for Education or Computer Science and want to make a difference in children's lives
- You enjoy working with kids of all ages
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to guide others
- Ability to bring an upbeat, high energy attitude to any event
- Should be a team player and agreeable to working in a dynamic, evolving environment
