Senior Software Engineer - Web - User Acquisition

  • Full-time

Company Description

Twitter is what’s happening and what people are talking about right now. For us, life's not about a job, it's about purpose. We believe real change starts with conversation. Here, your voice matters. Come as you are and together we'll do what's right (not what's easy) to serve the public conversation.

Job Description

Who We Are:

You'll be joining a community of 100+ engineers, grouped into sub teams with specific domain focus. The team is made up of hardworking people from all over the world. We work from London, San Francisco, Boston, Colorado and New York, and collaborate with folks remotely across the United States and the globe. We welcome people from all backgrounds.

We represent a wide range of experience and interests, and we all agree to do three things well:

  • We strive to build a strong team that allows us to do and learn more than we could as individuals. Being inclusive is a part of our team's culture and community.

  • We collaborate to create a codebase that is a joy to work in and will be for years to come. Let's be responsible together.

  • Our goal is to reach the user at all stages of the public conversation. We care deeply about meeting users wherever they are, including when they read articles and visit publishers, when conversations are shared with them, and when they search and discover what’s going on around them.

We're a thoughtful and motivated team, that despite being relatively small, has a large impact on the world and the company. Your skill and passion will be appreciated and rewarded here.

Who You Are:

  • First off, you don’t need a Computer Science degree to apply. We encourage people from both CS and non-CS backgrounds with equivalent work experience to apply.

  • You are an engineer with at least 4 years of experience in industry.

  • You take a collaborative approach to work and can incorporate feedback from product, design and your engineering peers

  • You have a fierce sense of ownership, caring deeply about the quality of everything that you deliver into your customers' hands.

  • You love the challenge of engineering, and are confident in your ability to bring clarity and direction to ambiguous problem spaces.

  • You work well in a fast paced environment while deeply investing in long term quality and efficiency.

  • You're passionate about teaching: We put a high value on learning from each other. You should be skilled at pairing, teaching and sharing things that you've learned.

  • You've got empathy and self-awareness: The foundational trust of all strong teams relies on understanding yourself and others.

  • You work as part of a team, including engineers in remote offices

  • You care about enabling individuals across the web to be a part of the public conversation: we want to reach everyone everywhere.

What You’ll Do:

We want you to find work that aligns with both your career goals and the goals we have for Twitter.

Below are the kind of things we would like you to work on:

  • Get to know your peer developers to understand their challenges in day to day work so that you can move quickly and with empathy to improve all aspects of their work.

  • Work closely with teams across product engineering, product management and design to build features that affect millions of users daily.

  • Work with Twitter's web infrastructure teams to ensure that our web services are running efficiently, our work can be reused by others across the company (or world), and explore opportunities for using our work in new ways (e.g. what would it look like for us to support a server rendered tweet?)

  • Tackle key problems around finding and growing our reach through user acquisition channels like tweet sharing, search engine optimization, and content distribution.

This job is more than JavaScript. Your non-coding skills (Communication, Mentoring, Project Management, etc) are very important. We believe that leadership comes from everywhere, and it's important that our Senior Developers have the skills to lead complex projects successfully within a large organization.

Familiarity with or interest in learning any of the following is a plus: React, ES6, Node / Express, React Native, GraphQL, Server Side Rendering (SSR), Java / Scala, A / B experimentation

Qualifications

  • B.S. or higher in Computer Science (or equivalent work experience)

Nice to Haves:

  • Great communication and documentation abilities

  • Data-informed product development: analytics, A/B testing, etc.

  • Experience across the stack: on infrastructure, data engineering and modeling, and product and API services

If this sounds like a team you want to be a part of, great! We are looking for an engineer who loves writing code, has a strong desire to learn, and wants to collaborate with teammates who are committed to serving their customers.
