Who We Are
The Privacy and Data Protection Internal Counsel team is a team of privacy attorneys who are subject matter experts and legal advisors partnering closely with other parts of the PDP team and supporting our legal and business colleagues on internal privacy matters. We are dedicated to supporting our vision to protect public conversations and foster customer trust in Twitter by fulfilling our mission to bring a customer first lens to Twitter's data and privacy decisions to meet our promises to customers and regulators.
What You'll Do
Work as part of a cross-functional team delivering best in class privacy counseling to Twitter's Product Counsel and other key corporate functions, including leading and playing a key part in advising and supporting data protection impact assessments.
Support the development and refinement of our privacy governance documentation in collaboration with our privacy operations and privacy risk management functions.
Build and maintain scalable and effective processes for providing legal input to clients and standards for strategic initiatives related to human resources, programmatic privacy program design, data and privacy governance and related compliance processes, and other cross-functional projects.
Provide legal advice to ensure our clients' activities and operations are compliant with applicable laws, regulations, standards/controls, contractual obligations, and industry best practices.
Act as one of the main points of contact for the PDP team on incidents involving potential data disclosure. Collaborate with the Security and Product Counsel teams on incident preparedness, investigation, communication, and remediation.
Create and provide guides and training to legal team members, clients, and cross-functional stakeholders on areas within your remit to ensure we have a consistent and clear position on applicable laws, regulations, and relevant self-regulatory frameworks.
Work collaboratively with the PDP team responsible for tracking new laws to help analyze and communicate the implications of changing U.S. and international laws and regulations to our clients and peers.
Educate and advocate for privacy and data protection in cross-functional forums.
Participate as a member of the PDP in the ongoing work of building, refining, and scaling privacy and data protection compliance processes and work as part of a cross-functional privacy team to deliver best in class privacy and data protection training initiatives across the company.
Support and manage various one-off projects.
Who You Are
You are an experienced privacy and data protection attorney who is eager to work as a specialist focused on a variety of privacy and data protection topics.
You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with broad responsibilities. While legal expertise is expected we need someone with a keen business sense, a strong work ethic, and practiced interpersonal discipline.
You have the ability to operate independently, proactively, and cross-functionally with teams across the organization.
You are a self-starter who works well with minimal supervision, but shows excellent judgment about when to look to managers and teammates for guidance, and when and how to communicate with diverse stakeholders.
You are a team player with a proven track record of building cross-functional relationships.
You have a demonstrated ability to complete several simultaneous projects on a deadline.
You are detail-oriented with excellent writing skills and you love to get things done!
Qualifications
7+ years of legal experience supporting and advising businesses on global privacy and data protection related concerns, ideally with both a law firm and/or within a fast-paced technology, media, advertising agency, or Internet company.
Proven experience demonstrative of your ability to be solution-oriented, able to calibrate risk, and focused on customer-service.
Proven track record showing exceptional communication and project management skills.
Have a well-developed ability and passion for making complex topics understandable for various audiences.
Experience working in or building, privacy and data protection programs and developing compliance processes, practices and related documentation.
Knowledge of global privacy laws, regulations, standards and related regimes including but not limited to CCPA, GDPR, and LGPD.
Ability and strong desire to effectively advise, develop relationships, and work collaboratively across stakeholders both within and outside of the legal and privacy teams.
Experience leading with a growth mindset and comfort working in a company experiencing rapid change and evolution.
Bar admission or equivalent and in good standing to practice law in your relevant jurisdiction.
CIPP preferred.
Advising or working on privacy and data protection issues with respect to online advertising and ad tech, online marketing, data governance, privacy compliance programs, risk management, product counseling and privacy engineering teams preferred.
Bar admission in good standing to practice law in a U.S. state jurisdiction.
