Job Description

This role provides subject matter expertise on Employee Relations issues globally. This includes conducting internal investigations into complaints involving complex, high-risk, or otherwise sensitive employee relations and providing guidance to managers and HR Business Partners on how to navigate complex employment matters where heightened risk or conflict is involved.  

This role is additionally responsible for identifying trending issues, assessing root causes, and making recommendations on how to address systemic concerns. The Senior Employee Relations Partner reports to the Lead Employee Relations Partner and partners closely with Employment Legal, HR Business Partners, the Learning team, and other functions within the People Team.
 
Specific duties include:

  • Conducting investigations involving allegations of policy and/or employment legal violations, working to ensure that issues are properly identified, reported, investigated and resolved.
  • Adherence to investigative best practices and protocols around gathering, preserving, documenting, and analyzing information and data relevant to reported issues.
  • Making recommendations as to the appropriate remedial action following an investigation including, for example, disciplinary action or performance counseling.
  • Use data to identify and analyze employee relations trends and make recommendations to address ER trends and root causes.
  • Providing expert advice and counsel to managers and HR Business Partners to ensure correct application and integration of policies on issues with particular risk.
  • Helping to draft new policies and protocols relating to employees’ concerns.
  • Providing interpretation of existing human resource policies, rules, and processes.
  • Supporting learning initiatives, including content development, material preparation, and/or co-facilitation of trainings on relevant subject matter including but not limited to employment legal basics and performance management best practices.
  • Partnering with various functions within Human Resources (i.e. Analytics, Learning, Diversity and Inclusion) to execute business-specific People strategies.
  • Creating, reviewing, and updating ER- and HR-related tools and templates.
  • Maintaining and protecting confidential data with great discretion, judgment, and professionalism.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned, in line with the role.
     

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-7 years experience investigating complex employee relations issues, with more experience desired.
  • JD with employment legal background – including global employment law experience – strongly preferred.
  • Mastery of employment legal basics and performance management best practices.
  • Experience working on employee relations or employment law matters at a global company, with an interest in and willingness to handle matters in the US and EMEA.
  • Strong business orientation coupled with a genuine desire to promote a fair and positive work environment for all employees.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including high EQ, ability to build trust and influence at all levels of the organization, and collaborate with other teams.
  • Detail­-oriented, with regard to investigations and documentation of investigations.
  • Able to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities independently and keep current with workload.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Experience diffusing tension and effectively mediating conflict.
  • Presentation and training facilitation experience.
  • An eye toward innovation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive experience managing complex employee relations issues, including workplace investigations.
  • Capability to apply discretion and sound judgment in managing complex decisions and handling sensitive information.
  • Strong influencing skills leveraging business acumen, expertise, and data.
  • Ability to identify relevant stakeholders, build trust, and provide sound advice.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to analyze data, understand trends and develop recommendations for action based on the analysis.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment laws and regulations (EEO, ADA, FMLA) and the ability to appropriately spot employment risk issues.
  • Knowledge of fundamental HR practices across ER, staffing, management practices, organizational effectiveness, compensation, and talent management.
  • Comfortable working hands-on to solve problems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule across different time zones as needed.
