- Full-time
Company Description
Twitter is what’s happening and what people are talking about right now. For us, life's not about a job, it's about purpose. We believe real change starts with conversation. Here, your voice matters. Come as you are and together we'll do what's right (not what's easy) to serve the public conversation.
Job Description
Who We Are:
We're looking for an experienced attorney who is comfortable taking on broad commercial and counseling responsibilities, working in a fast-paced environment and has experience in and/or a passion for creators, publishers and the digital content economy. We work closely with a variety of teams, and the projects that come across our desks run the gamut from commercial negotiations to policy development to counseling on go-to-market strategies for our creator and publisher monetization initiatives.
You’ll be joining a broader team of whip-smart subject matter experts in business and talent affairs, content acquisition, and advertising and marketing, and we all enjoy working collaboratively (with a healthy dose of good humor) and strive to deliver meaningful impact to the business.
What You’ll Do:
You will need to bring legal smarts, business sense and a strong work ethic because you'll be dealing with challenging legal and business issues in helping to craft our monetization strategies for creators and publishers and providing related support and guidance to Twitter’s sales, business development, operations, product and partner management teams.
Responsibilities will include:
Structure, draft and negotiate various commercial agreements with advertisers and their media agencies, creators, publishers, creative service agencies and other vendors.
Counsel on a variety of legal and business issues related to go-to-market and growth strategies, including developing and drafting online program terms and working collaboratively with cross-functional partners in Trust & Safety, Marketing, Tax, Finance, Accounting and Commercial Payments to deliver advice.
Manage relationships across business and product teams to anticipate legal support needs and build and implement scalable processes and solutions in response to new and evolving business objectives.
Develop and provide contract negotiation and policy training to legal team colleagues and business development and partner management teams.
Work with international legal team colleagues in support of expanding and tailoring creator and publisher monetization businesses in other countries.
Who You Are:
We are looking for people who are motivated, collegial, have sound business and legal judgment and can deliver pragmatic, actionable advice, even in ambiguous situations. A successful candidate will have experience in at least some of the substantive areas in which we work, and a willingness and ability to learn the rest.
Qualifications
Solid understanding of social media platform landscapes and comfort in dealing with related creator economy, digital advertising and content issues, including staying up-to-date on advertising, media and other legal areas related to Twitter’s creator and publisher monetization businesses.
Experience with intellectual property (especially copyright and trademark), advertising/FTC (especially advertising/marketing claims and endorsements), digital ad sales, content licensing, privacy and consumer laws, including an understanding of how these areas impact contractual terms and third party relationships.
Business-affairs related and/or entertainment experience (including familiarity with union obligations) a plus
Have a strong sense of ownership of your work, with a mindset of no project being too big or too small to handle
Comfort with escalating issues, as appropriate, while also being able to earn trust from client teams by facilitating progress and proposing creative solutions to identified legal and business risks
Excellent organizational skills and ability to jump in and lead and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
Detailed-oriented with strong written and oral communication skills
Requirements:
At least 5 years of relevant legal experience in the substantive areas described above, ideally, at a fast-paced technology, media, entertainment or Internet company or at a law firm where you supported clients in one or more of these industries.
Demonstrated success in supporting business and product teams experiencing rapid change
Ability to operate independently and work proactively with various teams across the company
JD from an accredited law school, and be admitted to at least one US State Bar in good standing and be qualified for and willing to maintain Registered In-House Counsel status with the California State Bar
