Who We Are

The Health engineering team builds scalable detection systems that keep spam, manipulation, and abuse at bay. Abusive Interactions is a team within Health that ensures Twitter is a safe space for public conversation to enable users’ healthy participation. We use ML and heuristics to proactively detect abusive content that violate our terms of service. We also use ML and heuristics to manage incoming reports of abuse. Our team works across the product to detect abusive users and content, increase action on bad actors, drive changes in user behavior, and detect and remediate accounts that are violating the terms of service on Twitter.

What You’ll Do

We’re looking for someone who can help us engineer stateful, complex heuristics to proactively combat spam and abuse across multiple product surface areas, rapidly prototype new signals, and use your experience to size opportunities and advise product decisions. As a technical team member, you will work with other data scientists, engineers, product managers and UX designers across multiple orgs that are passionate about doing everything we can to improve overall platform health.

Who You Are

If this role sounds like a fit, you probably have:

• At least 2 years of experience extracting patterns in text to build heuristics that can operate at scale.

• A knack for developing, testing, and productionizing complex and stateful rules and heuristics.

• Ability to deliver on short term solutions in collaboration with a multi-functional team to respond to critical issues and events around the globe that increase the prevalence of abuse on the platform.

• Skills to apply advanced statistical techniques to model user behavior, identify causal impact and attribution, and define, build and benchmark-related metrics.

• Strong SQL chops and/or Python skills. Exposure to Javascript or Scala is desired but not vital.

• Familiarity with software engineering methodology, e.g. unit testing, code reviews, design documentation.

• Experience using data visualization tools (e.g, Tableau, Zeppelin) to share ongoing insights.

• A strong desire to improve the health of public conversation and discourse.

• Strong communication skills to enable collaboration with product and policy teams.

• Thoughtful perspectives, empathy, creativity, and a positive attitude to solve problems at scale.

Notice (Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act)

The expected salary range for this role to be performed in Colorado is USD$128,000.00 - USD$179,000.00. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for participation in Twitter’s Performance Bonus Plan and Equity Incentive Plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
