Data Specialist, Emerging Curation

  • Full-time

Company Description

Twitter is what’s happening and what people are talking about right now. For us, life's not about a job, it's about purpose. We believe real change starts with conversation. Here, your voice matters. Come as you are and together we'll do what's right (not what's easy) to serve the public conversation.

Job Description

We are looking for an innovator to help Curation draw insightful, data-driven signals from large, dynamic content systems, rapidly test novel ideas, and help produce proofs-of-concept that inspire engaging and responsible customer experiences throughout Twitter. As we continually scale our content understanding via human-in-the-loop machine learning (HITL ML), this role will be superbly positioned for making long-term impact in a fast-moving space.

Candidates should be adept at querying databases quickly and efficiently; working with off-the-shelf tools and applications in a sandbox environment to explore new workflows and technical solutions; and collaborating with cross-functional peers to produce prototypes that excite and inspire.

Alongside colleagues who specialize in Product, Design and Research, the Data Specialist will ensure content insights are efficiently, accurately and effectively recorded in the Twitter Knowledge Graph and own data insights that fuel our work. They will collaborate with Engineering colleagues on tooling needs and approaches that leverage statistics to extend Curation’s content understanding to multiple products and surfaces around the world.

The ideal person for this role is eager to critically examine the status quo and excited to propose new, non-obvious ways to approach user problems. They are someone who has an appetite for understanding what is happening in the world (especially on Twitter) and a desire to help drive a more engaging customer experience. Finally, this candidate is someone who is diligent about their work while also remaining flexible and comfortable with multitasking.

Responsibilities

  • Quickly deliver technical elements of strategic projects, including data parsing, analysis, and migrations that unlock larger work streams.

  • Ensure Emerging Curation experiments and work streams are recorded in the Twitter Knowledge Graph

  • Coordinate cross-functionally to build early pilots or prototypes that accelerate our internal learning around key features, workflows, and data collection systems.

  • Use data to advance projects through multiple stages, and most importantly to drive significant product impact

  • Influence & execute a long-term strategy for success

  • Develop scalable approaches to collecting human decision-making in structured formats on which we can build new capabilities.

Qualifications

  • SQL and/or BigQuery skills; advanced database analysis skills in Google Sheets via pivot tables, script editors, and formulas

  • Experience with prototyping key elements of new systems, workflows, and customer features

  • Proficient in collaborating with PMs and/or ML engineers in defining schemas and attributes that drive deeper understanding of media and content

  • A track record of applying technical solutions to stubborn business problems to achieve positive results

  • Thrives in fast-paced environments by sharing work and soliciting feedback early

  • A love for the Twitter product and how it is used everywhere
