The Opportunity

 

As the Senior Manager of Technical Program Management for Consumer Product at Twitter, you will ensure Twitter has the features and capabilities to consistently meet the needs of its end customers in a predictable and sustainable manner. You and your team will partner closely with leaders across the company to plan, resource, and drive execution of top company priorities with a focus on speed, consistency, and predictability. TPM at Twitter is a centralized team staffing a diverse bench of industry leaders working across all orgs in the company. This role is deeply cross-functional, and building positive relationships across Product, Engineering, Design, Research, Data Science, Legal, Policy, and other functions will be essential to the success of this leader.

 

 

People management

  • Has lead team of teams as an engineering or program leader (managed managers)

  • Knows how to do performance management. Has grown ICs in their career to a Sr Staff+ level and managers to Manager level. Has concrete examples of perf mgmt in both directions (manage up, manage out)

  • Experience leading teams across time zones and cultures

  • Servant leader mindset

High performing teams

  • Knows what “good” looks like for engineering teams. Knows what “bad” looks like as well. Can articulate these, and cite real world examples of where they’ve encountered this. Has strategies for getting teams out of bad states.

  • Understands difference between bad-to-good team evolution, and good-to-great. Can speak to strategies for moving teams between these states.

  • Understands that failure and learning are part of the process, works to build a culture of learning.

  • Has experience doing org design and executing re-orgs. Has experience guiding an org through periods of change.

 

Partnering

  • Able to have difficult conversations. High competency and experience giving and receiving feedback.

  • Ability to influence without authority. 

  • Experience managing senior stakeholders

  • Can get stakeholder buy-in. Must have meaningful experience doing this.

  • Can resolve mis-aligment between groups. 

 

Strategic Vision and excellent communication skills

  • This is someone who should be able to own a 2-3 year strategy to take a TPM area to the next level at Twitter and get the team excited about it.

  • Comfortable presenting to large audiences and/or to senior staff level stakeholders. 

  • Must have excellent communication and collaboration skills. Should be able to articulate desired outcomes clearly, and are able to build organizational alignment in a complicated space.

  • Empathetic listener - understands the perspectives/POV of those they are interacting with

 

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science / engineering, or equivalent work experience

  • TPM - program management craft and technical knowledge

  • Has been a leader of Program Managers or Technical Program Managers for at least 5 years

  • Risk management skills

  • Advanced understanding of at least one team’s technical domain, with basic understanding of multiple other technical domains

  • Can articulate best practices for TPM across the industry

  • Experience leading a large, impactful program. Can describe each stage of the program, their contribution, etc.

Notice (Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act)

The expected salary range for this role to be performed in Colorado is USD$167,000.00 - USD$234,000.00. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for participation in Twitter’s Performance Bonus Plan and Equity Incentive Plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
