Lead a community of forward-thinking engineers who own the VM layer at Twitter.

Who We Are

VM team provides software to enable safe, secure and fast Twitter-scale services. Our job of empowering the VM infrastructure directly impacts the health of Twitter platform. As the engineering manager on our team, you will face some of the most difficult challenges in modern software engineering. It will be up to you to drive our vision and strategy for the VM software stack at Twitter. You will work on some of the world’s most highly-scaled distributed systems. Our services serve millions of requests per second, while meeting stringent availability requirements. You and your engineering team will provide a platform that all Twitter engineers rely on every day.

What You’ll Do?

As engineering manager, you will own the careers of highly motivated and outstanding software developers. As part of the team, join with hardworking engineers on critical performance and reliability initiatives. We collaborate to bring out the best in each other. The libraries and tools your team crafts and operates will play a key role in Twitter engineering velocity and happiness. Inside Twitter, your work will empower dozens of engineering teams, and hundreds of co-workers. Externally, you will empower people to connect and communicate.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and deliver the next generation of VM strategy

  • Build and maintain high-performance, fault-tolerant, and scalable VM product

  • Diagnose and tackle sophisticated distributed systems problems and develop solutions that have a significant impact at Twitter’s massive scale

  • Improve the reliability and efficiency of our services and eliminate vulnerabilities before they are discovered.

  • Partner closely with other engineering teams and project managers

  • Foster a culture of mentorship, growth and collective learning

Qualifications

Ideally, you have experience with:

  • Setting and measuring strategic goals

  • Defining a long-term strategic roadmap

  • Leading a geographically distributed engineering team

  • Distributed systems, performance analysis, and web infrastructure

  • Developing and operating large scale distributed systems with high availability

  • Development experience on the JVM, including asynchronous I/O, concurrency, and the Java memory model

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years in engineering management

  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Minimal travel required (2-4 weeks per year)

Additional Information

    Notice (Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act)
    The expected salary range for this role to be performed in Colorado is USD$191,000.00 - USD$267,000.00. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. This range may be modified in the future.
    This job is also eligible for participation in Twitter’s Performance Bonus Plan and Equity Incentive Plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
