Job Description

As the Sr Staff Technical Program Manager, driving engineering capacity and performance Management at Twitter, you will ensure Twitter has the capacity to consistently meet the needs of its end customers in a predictable and sustainable manner at the lowest cost. In this role, you will be leading the overall efficiency programs across the Twitter technical stack. You and your virtual team will partner closely with leaders across the company to plan, resource, and drive execution of top company priorities with a focus on efficiency, cost, speed, consistency, and predictability. TPM at Twitter is a centralized team staffing a diverse bench of industry leaders working across all orgs in the company. This role is deeply cross-functional, and building positive relationships across Product, Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, Data Science, Finance, Security, and other functions will be essential to the success of this leader.

What You’ll Do

 

  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to proactively understand their needs and opportunities for effective engineering capacity and performance management, and define the vision and strategy for this area

  • Create mid- to long-term cost projections for spend, present analysis and share insights with Finance and engineering and Twitter wide leadership, and track and report on actuals as well as drivers of the deviations.

  • Be the advocate for efficiency programs, within Twitter

  • Lead your team with empathy through execution, by skillfully motivating, energizing, empowering, supporting, unblocking, sheltering, and advocating for them

  • Partner with your peers leading other TPM teams to strengthen the craft: create standard methodologies for delivery and focus on continuous improvement across the function

  • Navigate social dynamics gracefully, and establish yourself as a neutral entity that shines daylight on program areas that need attention

  • Focus on personal development by constantly soliciting, giving, and incorporating constructive feedback

  • Champion capacity management best practices, implement fiscal and business operational rigor and uplevel engineering growth prediction capabilities

  • Become a subject matter expert on Twitter process, technology and methods and use this knowledge to become a trusted advisor to engineering leaders


 

Who You Are

  • Experienced cross-functional lead with a solid track record partnering with product and engineering teams to define strategy and requirements

  • Proficient collaborating with engineering teams to design, scope, and deliver high scale resource management within distributed systems

  • Consistently trusted leader, able to drive large teams and executives through complex, multi-faceted data-driven decisions

  • As a generalist and outcomes owner, you have the ability to fill any gap needed to deliver, including writing functional specs, project / release plans, roadmaps, and technical proposals

  • Thrive amid ambiguity, able to influence peers / managers toward shared vision and forward progress

  • Tireless multitasker, with capacity to own and execute multiple large programs simultaneously

  • Experienced in forecasting cost models and implementing effective approaches to capacity management across companies in a hybrid cloud environment

 

Qualifications

 

 

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science / engineering, or equivalent work experience

  • 10+ years as a TPM, engineering leader, product manager (technical domain), or related discipline

  • Experience in data modeling, trend analysis, statistics, forecasting, or business insights.

  • Systems thinker and a quantitative approach to problem solving.

  • Deep focus on execution, follow-through, accountability and results.

  • Experience working with several different development methodologies and productivity tools

  • Consistent track record of shipping products at scale, with broad customer impact

  • Experience building or managing work on highly-available, scalable software products and services

  • Executive level communication, with an emphasis on written skills

  • Proven ability to identify and resolve systemic issues in both software and people systems

  • Interest and capacity to mentor TPMs and champion growth

  • Passionate interest in Twitter’s products and mission

  • Empathetic leader that is always aware of the impacts of their decisions on others and leads with emotional intelligence

Notice (Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act)

The expected salary range for this role to be performed in Colorado is USD$191,000.00 - USD$267,000.00. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for participation in Twitter’s Performance Bonus Plan and Equity Incentive Plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
