Job Description

What You’ll Do:

In this role, you will captain a team of researchers that are working on building and improving the products, tools, and policies that are at the foundation of how customers experience and get more out of our platform. Part executional researcher and part coach, you will lead the proactive discovery, exploration, and development of the quantitative customer insights that help our product and research partner teams understand their customers’ perceptions and achieve strategic goals, while also leading a team of researchers whose responsibility it is to execute research plans that impact every stage of development, from ideation to implementation.

You will also build productive relationships with cross-functional partners in Product, Engineering, Design, Content Strategy, Strategy & Operations, and Data Science, and collaborate with other internal research teams to connect the dots, seed ideas, and help drive better business decision-making and fuel long-term sustainable growth for Twitter.

You understand the importance of marrying business goals with cultural context and customer insights. You know exactly when to engage with cross-functional teams, what questions to ask, where to probe, and how to implement the most effective research strategies for the problem at hand. You are a creative problem-solver who seeks to deeply understand the business so that you can define the most meaningful and strategic research plans. You love metrics, and some might even call you a metrics badass. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy setting your own research goals, helping others set and manage goals, managing workloads and expectations, and delivering impactful research findings and recommendations. You have a passion for leading teams and developing talent and understand how to balance the jobs of leading a team through effective coaching and delegation with leading your own projects. You’re passionate about Twitter and believe great experiences are always inspired by a deep understanding of the user. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the discovery of quantitative insights to drive strategy across the organization

  • Partner with Design, Product, Engineering, and Data Science teams across our revenue, platform, and engineering operations to build in research at multiple stages of the product development process

  • Collaborate with domestic and international research and product partners and vendors

  • Drive continuous improvement to our internal and licensed tool stack

  • Ensure problems are approached through the integration of multiple data streams, including qual and quant research

  • Advocate for insights in order to drive action and impact by providing compelling narratives and artifacts

  • Lead purposeful relationship-building with a wide array of partners and other research teams

  • Lead, manage, coach, and mentor a team of researchers

Required Competencies

  • Strong foundational knowledge of qualitative research methodologies and a deep mastery of quantitative research methods, tools, and techniques

  • Strong business acumen; an understanding of business goals, metrics, strategies, and pressures while being aware of industry trends and competitive actions as a context for doing research

  • Ability to build collaborative cross-functional relationships to influence strategic decisions in a distributed environment

  • Ability to manage through ambiguity, proactively assess organizational needs, and prioritize initiatives by asking the right questions

  • Detail-oriented with strong project management skills, able to manage multiple projects and direct reports simultaneously

  • An entrepreneurial mentality and a creative approach to problem-solving

  • Ability to express ideas clearly and simply; listen to others; create an environment where all are comfortable expressing thoughts; and promote the timely and ongoing flow of information

  • A growth mentality that fuels your desire to constantly learn and improve

  • A keen interest in new and experimental methodologies

Requirements:

  • 5+ years managing a research team of multiple people at varying levels

  • 10+ years conducting user research and/or market research, with an excellent command of both qualitative and quantitative methods

  • Extensive experience conducting research globally, across cultures and languages

  • A track record of thought leadership and delivering research to inform business, marketing, and product development strategies and roadmaps

  • Proficiency in R and SQL, proficiency in Python a plus

  • Experience working with Product and Design teams preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree (minimum requirement)

  • Advanced degree in Quantitative Methods, Statistics, Psychology, Social Science or related field preferred
