The Accounting team manages the core accounting responsibilities at Twitter. 

We are seeking a seasoned accounting professional with financial services industry experience to join the technical accounting team as a Senior Manager, Technical Accounting who can be a subject matter expert in the accounting and financial reporting of complex technical accounting matters.  This position will report to the Director, Technical Accounting and assist or lead key accounting initiatives including the expansion into e-commerce and fintech products, money transmitter license, business combinations, stock-based compensation, investments in non-marketable securities, VIEs and consolidation, debt transactions, new accounting standards, other non-recurring transactions, and SOX-related matters.  

You are someone who is inquisitive, detail oriented and analytical. You know your accounting principles and have strong working knowledge of accounting processes end to end. 

You'll make our processes more efficient and scalable, work to ensure the highest levels of quality are maintained in our day to day operations, and proactively minimize operational risk. Externally, you will collaborate with our business process outsourcing partners and internally, you will collaborate across the multiple teams within Finance as well as other key stakeholders in the business.

Job Description

What You'll Do 

  • Partner and collaborate with key stakeholders by researching and applying US GAAP related to unique, significant, and/or non-routine transactions.  

  • Act as a subject matter expert with respect to Twitter’s expansion into transactions involving e-commerce and fintech. 

  • Ensure appropriate documentation of accounting and reporting conclusions for complex, highly judgmental areas including: business combinations, stock-based compensation, investments in non-marketable securities, VIEs and consolidation, and debt transactions.

  • Assess and document impairment indicators and impairment analyses quarterly and on an as needed basis

  • Lead or assist with valuations of various assets and/or transactions, as needed.

  • Evaluate the impact of new accounting standards, prepare assessment papers, and execute the implementation of relevant standards.

  • Assist with month-end and quarter-end close procedures, including:

    • Reviewing and posting journal entries

    • Reviewing reconciliations

    • Assisting with the preparation and/or review of certain financial statement footnote disclosures for 10-Qs and 10-Ks 

  • Maintain and/or prepare accounting policies and assist with the operationalization of these policies. 

  • Lead in special accounting and finance projects on an ad-hoc basis.

  • Perform the functions of the SOX PMO through: 

    • Partnering with internal audit and internal control process owners to assist with planning, preparation, and execution of the audit of internal controls and be a liaison with external auditors

    • Providing training to internal control process owners and those performing controls of SOX requirements and best practices

Assisting with the evaluation, documentation, and remediation of SOX deficiencies

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Recognized accounting qualification active CPA.

  • Thorough technical knowledge of US GAAP and SOX.

  • 8+ years of experience in accounting with a focus on the financial services industry

  • Experience with e-commerce and fintech a must

  • At least 6+ years of public accounting experience.

  • Strong technical writing and communication skills. 

  • Experience executing in a dynamic, high speed and demanding environment by demonstrating organizational, interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and prioritization skills.

  • Experience working in a cross-functional global environment and building lasting business relationships.

  • Experience with automation projects (e.g. RPA, Machine Learning).

  • Experience thinking strategically and connecting the end-to-end process to the strategy of the business.

  • Experience driving change and improving the end-to-end processes with a proven track record in business process re-engineering and systems analysis.

  • Demonstrated experience of data analysis, problem-solving and solutions development.

  • Experience with ASC 606 revenue recognition. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience of Finance business process transformation.

  • Project management skills with the ability to work with minimal guidance and in a team environment.
