Who We Are: The teams under Search and Recommendations are part of one of the largest consumer organizations at Twitter. Our mission is to better connect users to the rich content on Twitter via better search and personalization. 

Our Search and Recommendation teams are hiring multiple ML Engineering Managers across various levels (EM1, Sr EM, and beyond). These include teams for Search, Trends, and Events, Explore, Interests Product Engineering, Interests Relevance, Interests Content Understanding, and Relevance Platforms. 

We tackle Twitter-specific challenges in sifting through content on Twitter and helping our users locate what matters most to them. We also recommend the best content to our users based on their needs and preferences. We apply and advance state-of-the-art machine learning techniques to invent new models and systems that can be used to help us understand what our customers care about, and ultimately improve their experience on Twitter.

We operate at scale whilst ensuring fair and ethical use of our models and data.

What You'll Do: We are looking for Engineering Managers that can provide leadership to their teams and guide them in achieving this mission of connecting users with content most relevant to them on Twitter. You will lead diverse, capable, and driven Systems and ML Engineers and align their career ambitions with business requirements and opportunities. You will collaborate broadly to develop products and technologies to achieve the mission. 

  • Lead the vision and mission for your group. Be responsible for the group’s technical strategy and roadmap.
  • Mentor the professional development of direct reports, managers, and senior ICs, through personal and performance management. 
  • Form a collaborative team.
  • Build strong relationships with Design, User Research, Product, and other functions, and partner with them to deliver value to our users.
  • Be an engineering talent magnet to make the team successful in its established mission.

Qualifications

Who You Are:

  • You have a strong software engineering background and have built relevance-driven products.
  • You believe in building both teams and products that scale. You care about setting up healthy, distributed teams, and collaborative environments.
  • You have led a team of engineers with responsibility for machine learning & software development in production.
  • You are skilled at coaching and guiding your directs through their careers and growing them to the next level.
  • You’re capable of communicating & collaborating with our business, product, engineering, design, and research colleagues to discover new opportunities that benefit Twitter.

Requirements:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science with a focus on machine learning, mathematics, or a related quantitative field or commensurate work experience. Strong background in software engineering.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across a large engineering organization, both in terms of scale and complexity of the mission.

Notice (Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act)

The expected salary range for this role to be performed in Colorado is USD$167,000.00 - USD$234,000.00. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for participation in Twitter’s Performance Bonus Plan and Equity Incentive Plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
