We are looking for a product communications manager to support the Experience Communications team, which works cross-functionally with the product, research and design, engineering, marketing and policy teams at Twitter. This role would help people understand what’s new with Twitter. That new, cool feature? Yeah, that’s us. The new rule to help keep people safe? We’ll help you understand why we made the update and what it means for the public conversation on Twitter. 

 

Our team is focused on both consumer and technical updates, or said in another way, the changes you see on Twitter and the ones that happen under the hood. As a communications manager on the Experience Communications team, you will be creating strategic plans and messaging to support new feature launches and improvements to Twitter, as well as ongoing narrative-driven storytelling to differentiate Twitter externally, and crisis communications. The public conversation has never been more dynamic and global in nature, and we are looking for someone who can help us speak to the range and diversity of people that Tweet. 

 

This role will report into a Senior Manager, Communications, on the West Coast and provide support to the Experience Communications Team, as well as other comms functions during special projects, global rollouts, rapid press response and critical moments.

 

What success looks like:

  • You will serve as a subject matter expert on how Twitter is working to serve the public conversation for a broad consumer audience, early adopters, as well as informed, global decision makers, technology experts and researchers. 

  • You will serve as the main comms point of contact for various Twitter teams and projects including, but not limited to areas of the consumer product, ML Ethics (META), the Twitter developer platform, and Twitter Crypto.

  • You will provide strategic support to ensure product/market fit for our communications leads around the world.

  • You will foster excellent professional relationships with reporters across North America and keep a pulse on trends and news in target emerging markets through collaboration with regional communication leads and agencies. 

  • You will be an excellent digital and traditional media strategist, understanding how Twitter’s improvements affect online culture and identify narrative opportunity areas based on your learnings from product launches and the conversations they inspire. 

  • You will be diligent in your written and verbal communication, producing a consistently high standard of materials for press and Twitter’s teams while writing in a human, easy to understand tone.

  • You will translate complex technical topics into clear communications that both internal and external audiences can easily understand.

  • You will provide crisp information and analysis on complex issues for multiple audiences.

  • You will have a keen interest in Twitter’s role in society and culture.

  • You will use data to inform and shape your approach.

  • You will effectively partner cross functionally and build strong relationships with Twitter’s marketing, legal, product, design, research, trust & safety, engineering, culture & community and public policy teams. 

  • You will represent comms in planning meetings, serving as the voice of the global public, the press and the people who use Twitter to make sure all voices are heard.

  • You will cultivate a solid knowledge of new product features and their impact on the health of the public conversation and perceptions held by the consumers and press who use them.

  • You will ensure the voices, trends, perspectives of emerging markets are addressed and accounted for in all relevant communications and narrative goals. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be an indispensable member of Twitter’s communications team.

  • Cultivate ongoing media relationships with press, in particular top-tier national, business, consumer, and technology reporters.

  • You will elevate conversations on issues impacting communities across the globe, while also spreading the word about product features on Twitter that help tackle these issues. 

  • Develop and execute reactive and proactive communications plans using all channels: interviews (press/podcasts/speaking opps), blog posts, statements, Tweets, video, etc. 

  • Drive thought leadership plans for executives, including training new spokespeople and identifying proactive opportunities for storytelling.

  • Provide tactical support to global launches including, informing strategy, pitching, coverage tracking and rapid response.

  • Support your comms colleagues, informing them on media issues that may arise. 

  • Maintain a strong level of administrative and operational rigor, producing reports, analysis, and data on Twitter’s position in the media debate around important issues.

  • Serve as one of Twitter North America’s main points of contact for day-to-day queries from press.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a BA/BS degree (no major preferred -- we love diverse perspectives) or equivalent work experience.

  • Professional fluency in English.

  • 5 + years communications experience including in-house media relations in technology, media or politics.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and messaging skills.

  • Good humor, humility, and high levels of empathy. 

  • Great organization skills, attention to details and ability to manage multiple projects at once.

  • An understanding of current events related to technology, and internet culture.

  • A general understanding of and curiosity for technology, including machine learning, APIs, and/or crypto/Web3. 

  • A global mindset and an ability to work with different cultures, perspectives, and attitudes. 

  • A thoughtful, considered, and compassionate approach to your work and colleagues. 

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, pressurised environment, and to meet deadlines consistently.
