Who We Are

Twitter’s globally distributed, real-time communications network generates trillions of events and petabytes of data per day. The Messaging team provides the connective tissue that spans the entire fabric of Twitter’s hybrid cloud. We power core features within the product and are in the critical path for the vast majority of Twitter’s revenue generation. Kafka forms the basis of most of our offerings to our customers and we are heavily involved with the open source community to push the envelope and improve the state of the art across the industry. The team’s vision is to deliver events to customers where they want them, how they want them.

What You’ll Do

• Help formulate a long term charter from first principles which is centered around the concept of real time data movement within and across the hybrid cloud 

• Lead a team of engineers spearheading a recently launched multi-year company wide program called CloudShuttle. This program aims to address data movement/sharing issues by partnering with various teams and orgs throughout the company. Of particular importance is the need to provide an end to end managed solution to customers, thereby boosting developer productivity, and consequently product innovation.

• Effectively engage with the open source community to advocate for Twitter’s interests and adopt industry best practices and solutions

• Work with Twitter Networking and GCP/AWS partners to plan for future requirements and strategize ways to improve the customer experience by adding resiliency to the software stack wherever appropriate  

Who you are

• An experienced manager of software engineers who believe your success is measured by the success of your team.

• You have a strong software distributed systems and coding background and are comfortable jumping into technical discussions. Experience with streaming storage or distributed systems on Kubernetes is a plus.

• You are confident in challenging the status quo by asking hard questions while being highly collaborative and open to input.

• A skilled communicator and facilitator with experience driving collaboration with remote teams and cross-functional partners.

Requirements

• Engineer management experience of at least 2 years and demonstrated ability in leading teams of 7+ ICs in size.

• Prior experience with distributed systems at scale.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Demonstrated track record of executing upon strategic vision.

• Demonstrated track record of collaborating with leadership and peers.
