Machine Learning Engineer - User Signals

  • Full-time

Company Description

Twitter is what’s happening and what people are talking about right now. For us, life's not about a job, it's about purpose. We believe real change starts with conversation. Here, your voice matters. Come as you are and together we'll do what's right (not what's easy) to serve the public conversation.

Job Description

Who We Are: The Geospatial and User Representations teams are part Signals, which is part of Cortex, the central machine learning organization at Twitter. Cortex’s mission is to empower internal teams to efficiently leverage machine learning by providing platform, modeling, and research expertise while advancing the ML technologies within Twitter.

We maintain Twitter’s notion of places, points of interest, and user locations, as well as user representations that characterize interests, associations, and geospatial context. We develop machine learning models to advance Twitter’s capabilities in these areas, and seek to leverage state-of-the-art techniques.

We operate at scale while ensuring fair and ethical use of our models and data.

What you will do: Work together with a team of Software Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, and Data Scientists to design, develop, and own geospatial & user representational signals and deep learning models. This includes driving the creation of new models, as well as enhancing and improving current ones.

You will help the team move fast and stay nimble, while collaborating with product teams to understand their needs, and be the authority on all aspects of our models and data. As a member of the team, you can also expect to influence the team's roadmap and help us shape our technical strategy to meet key customer needs.

Culture

We care about making work happy and productive for everyone, with the option to work from home when you need, wellness benefits, regular #NoMeetingFridays, #FocusWeeks, and six months of parental leave.

We love sharing knowledge and ideas. Within our team, we regularly get together to share insights and show each other our work. We encourage connections between teams, and facilitate cross-team interactions through team demos/tech talks, journal clubs, social activities, and a one on one coffee chat rotation between team members from different teams.

A few other things we value:

Challenge - We solve some of the industry’s hardest problems. Come to be challenged, learn, and thrive as an engineer.

Diversity - Diversity makes us a better organization and team. We value diverse backgrounds, ideas, and experiences.

Work, Life, Balance - We work hard, but we believe with hard work should come balance.

Collaboration - There’s that saying, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” We want to go far.

Variety - We encourage team rotations that allow you to work with and learn from other teams at Twitter.

Qualifications

Who you are: You are a machine learning engineer who is passionate about applied machine learning, algorithmic & computational challenges, and impact. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are comfortable on a distributed team.

  • BS (MS/PhD preferred) in a Machine Learning related degree

  • 1-2+ years experience modeling

  • Familiarity with at least one popular programming language, including (but not limited to) Python and Java

  • Familiar with software development life cycle and best practices.
