Head of Product Communications

  • Full-time

Company Description

Twitter is what’s happening and what people are talking about right now. For us, life's not about a job, it's about purpose. We believe real change starts with conversation. Here, your voice matters. Come as you are and together we'll do what's right (not what's easy) to serve the public conversation.

Job Description

We’re looking for a highly experienced, yet boundary-pushing communications leader to shape our global narrative around the Twitter platform. Or said another way: everything visible and invisible that shapes how people experience our app. You’ll create our strategy and provide strategic counsel to the leadership team that oversees Twitter’s product, technology, engineering, research and design, and site and safety policy teams. You will work with colleagues who lead consumer and technical product changes, the teams that write and enforce The Twitter Rules and the big picture thinkers that drive forward our big initiatives and key issues to address such as misinformation, responsible machine learning, longform content and how people get paid on Twitter. The ideal candidate loves Twitter and the problems we’re solving, brings fresh thinking, and can work quickly and through uncertainty across a fast-growing organization. You’ll report directly to our VP of Communications.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead our consumer and technical product communications strategy and planning, including new feature and policy launches, broader storytelling based on company goals and priorities, and support communications for multiple executives and industry-leading teams.
  • Serve on the global communications leadership team, and shape the direction of our narrative and team.
  • Engage with business/technology/consumer media and other external stakeholders.
  • Execute reactive and proactive communications plans and strategies using all channels: Tweets, interviews, blog posts, briefings, podcasts, statements, etc.
  • Liaise with Consumer, Policy, Internal, Customer Comms teams and global regional leads regarding announcements, issues management, and launches.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal partners in Consumer Product, Design and Research, Engineering, Technology, Safety Policy, Site Integrity, and push Twitter to constantly raise the bar in our communications.
  • Manage an effective and innovative speakers’ bureau to develop thought leadership platforms and strategic speaking plans for members of our executive team and others.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of product communications experience in an agency or in-house environment (with tech industry preferred).
  • A minimum of a BA/BS degree (no major preferred -- we love diverse perspectives) or equivalent work experience.
  • A passion for Twitter and our mission.
  • Innovative and creative approach to storytelling, not just traditional PR tactics.
  • Excellent writing, editing and messaging skills.
  • To be flexible, empathetic, collaborative and an all-around team player.
  • A global perspective and an ability to work with different cultures, perspectives and attitudes.
  • Ability to thrive and succeed in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • A deep understanding of technology, social media, internet, and news trends and how Twitter plays a role.
  • Effective communication skills across all levels of an organization — from individual contributors to executive staff
