  • Full-time

Company Description

Twitter is what’s happening and what people are talking about right now. For us, life's not about a job, it's about purpose. We believe real change starts with conversation. Here, your voice matters. Come as you are and together we'll do what's right (not what's easy) to serve the public conversation.

Job Description

The Product Counsel team is a team of product attorneys who are key advisors to Twitter’s product, platform, engineering, security, IT, and machine learning/AI teams. We partner closely with legal and business colleagues. We are passionate about the law and growing our business in a way that makes us proud.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work as part of a cross-functional team delivering best in class privacy, cybersecurity and product counseling to Twitter’s Security, Engineering, Technology, and Research teams.

  • Provide legal advice to our core services teams, such as Information Security, IT, Data Management, and Research to ensure the Twitter products, services, and technology delivered by those teams are compliant with applicable laws, regulations, standards/controls, contractual obligations, and industry best practices.

  • Act as one of the main points of contact for the Product Counsel team on privacy and security incidents. This will require an on-call rotation and collaboration with Security and Privacy teams on incident preparedness, investigation, communication, and remediation.

  • Build and maintain scalable and effective processes for providing legal input to clients and standards for strategic initiatives related to core infrastructure, privacy by design, incident response management, and other cross-platform projects.

  • Create and provide guides and training to legal team members, clients, and cross-functional stakeholders on how our foundational systems work and how we think about relevant laws, regulations, and self-regulatory frameworks with respect to those systems.

  • Stay up-to-date on relevant U.S. and international laws and regulations, especially those related to cybersecurity, privacy, data management, and other applicable areas.

Who You Are:

Product Counsel must have a deep understanding of Twitter’s products, technology, and business, and an ability to guide clients with clear, practical advice in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for people who are collaborative, flexible, self-motivated, curious, creative, and clear communicators (both written and verbal). Successful candidates will have expertise in at least some of the legal areas we face on a daily basis - such as cybersecurity, IT, privacy and data protection, and consumer protection - and a willingness and ability to learn about the rest.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of legal experience with expertise in one or more of: information security policies and standards (including incident response management, investigation and remediation), IT, privacy, and/or research. In-house legal experience preferred, particularly in connection with technology platforms.

  • Knowledge of global cybersecurity laws, regulations, and standards.

  • Exceptional communication and project management skills, including a strong desire and ability to make complex topics understandable for various audiences.

  • Ability and strong desire to effectively advise, develop relationships, and work collaboratively across stakeholders both within and outside of Legal.

  • Experience counseling information security, IT, and engineering teams.

  • Solution-oriented, risk awareness, customer service focused, and maintain a growth mindset.

  • Bar admission or equivalent and in good standing to practice law in your relevant jurisdiction.
