Job Description

We are looking for a well-rounded Benefits Specialist to join our People Team in Tokyo. Reporting to the Lead Compensation and Benefits Manager JAPAC, you will lead our benefits related initiatives and projects for Japan. In this role, you will partner closely with the Lead HR Business Partner for Japan/Korea, International Compensation & Benefits, HR Operations, our company doctor and our partnered vendors (for social insurance, pension, health insurance and medical services) to implement and manage a full-spectrum of HR Benefits to the employees in Japan.

Who You Are:

  • An experienced HR Benefits specialist with a minimum of 5 years in an international organization in Japan, with comprehensive knowledge of Japan Reward programs (e.g. Social Insurance, Health Services, Pension, Corporate Housing Program, etc) and a thorough understanding of Japan labor laws.

  • Have native level Japanese fluency, as well as business level English communication skills.

  • Can demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of a variety of retirement plans, health insurance plans and corporate housing plans. 

  • Passionate about driving projects end-to-end, a self-starter and a team player.

  • Have strong relationship-building and team collaboration skills.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, ever-changing, rapid-growth, fun environment.

  • Able to successfully manage high volume of work with multiple priorities.

What You’ll Do

  • Take the lead on key Benefits projects and initiatives (such as housing, defined contribution pension schemes, eldery care, and a range of other upcoming projects) working closely with JAPAC Benefits.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all Benefits-related responsibilities for Japan and carry out all regulatory duties to comply with statutory requirements specific to Japan. 

  • Analyse our Japan benefits offering and drive changes to our Japan Benefits Program to ensure a competitive positioning in the market. 

  • Help us ensure a safe and healthy working environment for our Tweeps. You’ll be looking after our health-check and stress-check offerings to employees, liaising with our company doctor, and managing additional offerings such as flu-shots and employee assistance programs. 

  • You’ll manage the partnership with our external vendors who support us with social insurance (health, pension and employment insurance), year end tax adjustments, management of our leave programs (maternity leave, sick leave, disability leave) as well as unemployment benefits.

  • You’ll work with a variety of internal stakeholders, both in Japan and internationally, such as International Benefits, Employee Standards, and Employment Legal teams to review Japan work rules and other internal policy documents as they relate to benefits. 

  • Serve as a certified health services supervisor (衛生管理者 - “eisei kanri sha”) responsible for conducting mandatory workplace assessment and facilitating monthly Health & Safety Committee meetings in partnership with the company doctor. 

  • Serve as the point of contact to our partnered vendors and employees on all queries relating to social insurance 社会保険 (health insurance, pension, employment insurance), worker’s compensation insurance (労災申請), year end tax adjustment (年末調整), income tax return (確定申告), statutory maternity leave, sick leave, disability leave and unemployment benefits. 

  • Handle statutory and administrative work that relates to benefits including but not limited to 36 Agreement, Disability Report, Health Check and Stress Check Report, group insurance enrollment, payroll and timesheet review.

  • You’ll have the opportunity to foster and maintain strong internal relationships with key HR colleagues globally including International Compensation & Benefits, Regional HR Business Partner for JPKR, People Operations, Global Equity Programs and Shareholder Services, Global Mobility, People Policy & Standards and Employment Legal.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.

  • 5+ years of relevant HR experience as a Benefits and/or Rewards Specialist.

  • Health Services Supervisor license required (衛生管理者).

  • Given the role supports the Japan market as a priority, native level Japanese language proficiency (both written and verbal) is a requirement. You must also be able to conduct business conversations in English.

  • You must have a strong understanding of Japanese labor laws and working knowledge of relevant regulations. 

  • Comprehensive understanding of the Japan social insurance administration, health insurance, pension, retirement benefits and payroll is a requirement.

  • Experience working in a global, international organization preferred.
