Job Description

This is a leadership position managing and maintaining five products from the Turnitin Integrity portfolio. This position requires strong project management, technical, and collaboration skills. As an Engineering Manager, you will communicate with product managers, customer success, and engineers across the globe. Strong prioritization and problem-solving are required to succeed in this position. Since the time will be distributed within five different projects, time management skills and the ability to switch between contexts are required. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain five products and associated engineering team (employees and part-time contractors)
  • Provide hands-on leadership while setting goals and driving performance
  • Collaborate with peers and team to define, develop and implement best practices and procedures
  • Manage tech roadmaps, delivery milestones, and dates for engineering teams. Partner with QA testing, UX, Security, DevOps, Customer Success teams, Engineering Leaders, and product management to ensure on-time delivery, quality, and customer migration process
  • Ensure resources are applied appropriately and cross-departmental issues are addressed
  • Migrate customers and end of life for some products
  • Come up with an enhanced plan to minimize the level of support required for some products or possibly outsource it
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural oversight as necessary. Be practical enough to strike a balance between doing things "perfectly" and doing things "well enough to ship"
  • Analyze and utilize quality metrics across development projects
  • Take passionate ownership of the software your team works on 
  • Provide an environment of openness and transparency while sharing your opinions and speaking up when you think we could be doing something better than we’re doing it now - tactfully and empathetically to communicate continuous improvement opportunities in a way that brings people along instead of distancing them
  • Mentor, coach and develop the careers of a talented group of engineers as well as peers 
  • Provide development opportunities for the team to broaden and enhance their skill sets while working with the team to ensure they have Individual development plans to stretch and grow their skills
  • Stay up-to-date with new tools and development strategies while bringing recommendations for change and innovation to leadership and own team
  • Ensure the team has great communication across the organization and are up to date with the vision and mission of the company
  • Be a proactive team player and communicator - both to your teammates and our collaborators from other engineering teams, product, customer support, sales
  • Maintain context alongside stakeholders as progress / decisions are made
  • Identify resource needs and hire individual contributors

Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on engineering skills.
  • Excellent organizational communication/collaboration skills working with cross-functional teams with different products
  • Proven record of strong project management skills 
  • Strong knowledge of software methodologies, tools and processes
  • Proven success track of tech leadership in at least two companies (engineering management, hiring,  mentoring, etc)
  • Strong coaching/mentoring skills with individual contributors and managers/peers
  • Experience building and architecting highly scalable front-end/back-end applications (React, Java Serverless and AWS)
  • Experience working and collaborating with teams across multiple time zones and geographies
  • Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional Agile teams
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proactive working style with the ability to adapt to change
