Job Description

Reporting directly to the CFO and in close collaboration with Center Leadership Team, the VP of FP&A and colleagues at all levels around the business, this position is responsible for global Accounting, which includes financial operations, accounting and statutory reporting, tax, treasury, compliance and control.  

Delivering a highly effective and efficient service to the Company and Parent Company, spanning all geographies and verticals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides leadership and direction to the Global Accounting team.

    • Manages team performance, reviewing performance formally and informally, giving feedback, course correction, motivation and enabling recognition. 

    • Enables the development of individual team members, delivering coaching and guidance as needed to enable them to achieve their full potential.

    • Ensures the team is engaged in both the team and wider company strategy, goals and purpose – through regular communication and meets/events, driving a team communication strategy so messages are appropriately channeled and employees are engaged positively and effectively.

  • Responsible for organizational development and design to ensure our Accounting team has the capacity and capability to support our Company’s strategic goals.  Serves as a leader, point of mentorship, and point of escalation for assigned Accounting staff.

  • Builds and maintains a high-performance team within each key workstream of our Accounting group.

  • Responsible for the oversight of Turnitin and its subsidiaries Accounting, including but not limited to: Statutory Reporting, Audit, Payroll, Treasury, Compliance and Tax. 

  • Working closely with the CLT, sets the vision and direction for corporate governance practiced through the work of specialist teams within remit, using industry best practices and Advance company guidelines/requirements. 

  • Leads the application of corporate compliance activities as it relates to our global control environment, including development and review of department policies, SOPs, and other control documents

  • Leads, risk management audits in partnership with Advance Risk Advisory group

  • Leads financial audits with KPMG and Advance Accounting

  • Implements relevant policies, protocols, procedures and measures to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations

  • Ensures deadlines are met within the Accounting function relative to group-wide financial reporting to Advance Finance, the CLT and our Board..

  • Designs, implements and evaluates control policies to ensure these remain best practice and enshrines the safety and security of the Company’s financial arrangements and funds. 

  • Leads acquisition integration activities as it pertains to the regional finance functions, banking networks and financial systems configurations.

  • Develops and maintains continuous improvement plans which enable the proactive development of our Accounting team, using employee engagement insights and feedback to improve the culture of your organization.

  • Ensures teams are consistently compliant with appropriate Turnitin ways of working/process and procedure

  • Improves efficiency and level-set resources to provide service and support where it is needed. Setting the resource plans and establishing the resources needed for strategic and transactional success.

  • Manages the costs of your organization against budgets annually agreed.

  • Is a thought partner and sounding board for the CFO, leaning into company strategy, projects, and goals, as and when requested

  • Actively progresses own personal and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Strategic planning and build out of Finance systems and processes for long term success 

  • 10-12 yrs. proven Finance Leadership experience in a progressive team with experience in the US

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant, or similar

  • Expert understanding of Global and US accounting standards, GAAP, SOX compliance, ASC revenue recognition, international accounting standards.

  • Working knowledge of US domestic and international tax accounting.

  • Ability to handle multiple critical priorities with competing deadlines.

  • Ability to present complex financial data in a clear and concise manner to CLT identifying major issues/concerns and potential corrective actions to a non-technical audience.

  • Demonstrated business acumen and understanding of financial concepts to successfully operate a business.

  • Demonstrated ability to think “big picture” and strategically leverage expertise, 

  • Demonstrated ability to partner with and influence stakeholders in operational and non-operational groups.

  • Knowledge of and experience with corporate finance techniques: modeling, project financial analysis, and valuation methods.

  • Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational, written, and interpersonal skills.

  • Expert understanding of the information industry and/or technology sales.

  • Remote team leadership experience

  • Excellent listening, negotiation and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization
