Job Description

Turnitin is looking for a Director of Product Management to help expand and grow the market leading Classroom Assessment offerings. You’ll play a key part in shaping the product vision, developing the roadmap, and defining the user jobs to be done. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with people from Engineering, Design, Customer Experience, Growth, Marketing, Product Writing, Research, and more!  Projects start and end with our users, so you’ll also be learning from instructors, students, and admins all along the way. You’ll take all these perspectives coupled with your unique view to help bring about a suite of products that seem to take on a life of their own. 

The product-design-engineering team is a collaborative group that is passionate about fairness and improving learning outcomes in education. Functionality includes an online assessment platform that enables instructors to grade everything in one place, including paper-based exams, online homework, bubble sheets, essays, and programming projects. Turnitin users cutting-edge technology and features like flexible auto graders and AI-assisted answer grouping to make grading faster and more equitable. 

What You’ll be Doing:

  • Develop and execute a unified Classroom Assessment strategy that leads to every instructor around the world using Turnitin to grade and provide feedback, leading to improved student outcomes

  • Coach a group of product management leaders to help them unlock their full potential

  • Put educators and learners at the center of everything you do to

    • understand what makes instructors tick 

    • make teachers jobs easier and more effective

    • promote student success through feedback and engagement

  • Be an assessment thought leader that

    • follows and understands impactful assessment trends

    • applies leading-edge technologies to assessment workflows

    • creates a product vision that will meaningfully improve student learning outcomes 

    • evangelizes Turnitin’s value for students, instructors, and administrators

    • inspires Turnitin team members with purpose toward our mission and enriches their lives at work

  • Synthesize problems meaningfully to

    • identify shared or conflicting interests across users and stakeholders

    • connect problems with potential solutions while balancing trade-offs

    • ultimately find ways to help improve education 

  • Leverage the strength of Turnitin’s Integrity portfolio to differentiate and accelerate market penetration of the Classroom Assessment offerings

  • Communicate effectively with everyone on the team, rest of the company, with the market, with users & customers

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the market

    • What our users / customers / partners need

    • Regional market needs

    • Competitive landscape, opportunities & threats

  • Translate and prioritize market and user needs, considering  business goals, user impact, and other metrics to communicate the trade-offs we can make

    • Aggregating and synthesizing user and customer feedback

    • Resolving differences between instructors’, admins’, and students’ interests

    • Balance priorities between these sometimes conflicting interests and business goals in a way that continues to help improve education

  • Partner with design and engineering leads to identify the best solutions to the problems

  • Collaborate closely with AI team to create unique differentiation that create a competitive moat around Turnitin solutions

Qualifications

  • You have previous experience as a Principal Product Manager, Product Director, or similar role. An MBA is a plus but not required.

  • You care tremendously about hearing from users and using their feedback to help guide your work

  • Have great written and verbal communication skills to communicate your decisions, process, and trade-offs

  • Can develop a strategic product vision and bring it to reality through effective leadership

  • Experienced in partnering with and bringing into alignment multiple departments

  • Experienced in developing, managing, and inspiring team members

  • Take data of the market and formulate a qualitative & quantitative understanding to be used to prioritize the problems to address

  • Experienced in EdTech, especially assessment, preferred, but not required
