Job Description

Turnitin is looking for an ambitious Product Manager to evolve and scale the software release processes, while supporting a dynamic and growing business that is rapidly expanding.  You will work across departments to understand the day to day company needs, prioritize them, and execute their delivery with engineering.  In partnership with Gradescope product leadership, and your customer experience, design, and engineering counterparts, you will come up with innovative solutions to customer problems that will meaningfully address their pain points.  You will strive to improve the release velocity and introduce discipline to the launch process, ensuring that all Turnitin departments are in lockstep and you launch new functionality to market.

The Gradescope team is a collaborative group that is passionate about improving assessment in higher education. We care deeply about our users and work proactively to solve their most pressing pain points to delight them and keep them happy. We iterate often and wear multiple hats, always striving to deliver new value for our users. We take pride in building reliable, high-quality solutions that are intuitive and that enhance the shared experiences between students, instructors, and administrators.

Gradescope is an online assessment platform that enables instructors to grade everything in one place, including paper-based exams, online homework, and programming projects. We use cutting-edge technology and features like flexible auto graders and AI-assisted answer grouping to make grading faster and more equitable. Gradescope is used to grade over 1 million students’ work per year at hundreds of leading higher-ed institutions, and we’re growing quickly.

What you will do:

  • You’ll be a product expert who intimately understands our users and their needs, problems, pains, and workflows

  • You’ll own specific features in Gradescope, from soup to nuts

  • You’ll lead the execution of said features by:

    • Writing specs that define the work for a given project

    • Supporting cross-functional teams  — which can include team members from Engineering, UX, Product Marketing, Customer Experience, and Product Writing — who work together to ultimately ship solutions that help solve our users’ problems

    • Making thoughtful product decisions during implementation, and exercising the dark art of negotiating between scope, time, and cost

    • Communicating project status to internal stakeholders

  • You’ll develop a deep understanding of our market by:

    • Collecting/ and synthesizing user feedback

    • Analyzing data into themes that make its way onto the product roadmap

  • You’ll be the face of Gradescope to external stakeholders. In any given week, you might meet with some of our customers/users and:

    • Hear what their specific needs/pain points are and collect their feedback

    • Respond to their requests that have been escalated from the field

  • You’ll work closely with the Principal Product Manager of Gradescope to develop and execute strategy.

Qualifications

  • You have previous experience as a Product Manager, Product Owner, or similar role

  • You are passionate about education and believe in the problems we’re trying to solve - Experienced in EdTech, especially assessment, preferred, but not required

  • You care tremendously about hearing from users and using their feedback to help guide your work

  • You’re empathetic, kind, and a good listener

  • You think critically, clearly, and logically

  • You relish understanding all of the juicy, niggling details but also recognize how those details support the bigger picture

  • You will be responsible for communicating with many of our customers — in person, over Zoom, via email — so excellent written and verbal skills are a must

  • You believe in strong opinions, and getting to the right answer, even when it’s not your own

  • You’re flexible when you need to be, yet know when hard decisions must be made

  • You know how to prioritize and break down complex problems into manageable tasks

  • You thrive in a collaborative environment leveraging the expertise of cross-functional teams
