As the Vice President of Infrastructure Engineering and IT Operations you’ll be globally responsible for the analysis, design, planning, implementation, and maintenance of all facets of the Information Technology department, including the Security, DevOps, NetOps and DBOps teams. 

The Vice President of Infrastructure Engineering and IT Operations plans, coordinates, and directs all daily operational activities of these departments who around the world form follow the sun support and provides direction and solutions that enhance mission-critical operations of the IT department and our production facilities which make our products come to life - including web services, hosting, security etc.

You’ll work closely with the Chief Technology Officer and other key business decision-makers in identifying and implementing cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the business. This position provides the strategy, leadership, and day-to-day management of the DevOps and SiteOps departments inclusive of infrastructure, software, hardware, networks, and security with ultimate responsibility for identifying and designing current and future technical solutions which keep our products in use 24/7/365.

Responsibilities

• In close collaboration with Turnitin leadership and senior colleagues, establish and maintain a global Security Infrastructure and Operations strategy. Set us on a path to align to industry-wide best practices.  
• Ensures that our security approach is fully compliant with SOC2, GDPR, ISO27001 and other quality benchmarks that may be relevant via security architecture and procedures and controls that ensure that information and data are secure and in compliance with the security and storage regulations of the business. Implements a regular penetration testing regime via the CI&SO.
• Establish and periodically review the process and metrics for defining performance and ensuring it remains at optimal levels.
• Ensure appropriate stakeholder engagement
• Drive accountability through company data and metrics.
• Facilitate the development of the accountability action chain, establishing continuous improvement opportunities and projects to enhance the service to customers internal and external.
• Create and implement IT policies and procedures that enable strong security and risk-management capabilities. Explore new technologies and software as appropriate and in conjunction with the Chief Technology Officer oversee the architecture and implementation of ongoing support of the network, server, and communications infrastructure in order to ensure high performance of the IT department.
• Has total ownership of the business continuity and disaster recovery within the Technology department and provide recommendations and implementation of new investments within the technology infrastructure. Implement and document a business recovery strategy for the purpose of resuming operations of system architecture and operations in the event of a disaster.
• Provide oversight and ownership of the entire network and system infrastructure ensuring proper configuration, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of security firewalls, sites/software, servers, data and file encryption, and internet connections. Ensuring these vital services are optimized and always on.
• Coordinate the selection, implementation, and upgrade of the business’s software/applications and services. 
• Ensure the consistency and maintainability of existing infrastructure environments through the creation, maintenance, and enforcement of well documented standards and procedures for the implementation of technical solutions.
• Establish operational and capital budgets in order to address the needs of various areas of the IT department, for example, system infrastructure, security, networks, and databases, hardware replenishment etc. Adhere to overall financial objectives of the business and tracks the annual departmental expenditures and directs the department’s financial needs in conjunction with the Finance BP.
• Partner closely with the Technical support team in gathering consumer feedback and developing insights that will lead to the improvement of IT services.
• Constantly review and assess the effectiveness of the existing sites, software/applications, data, and processes developed by the department. Analyze complex business requirements and makes recommendations to the Chief Technology Officer for technical solutions, ensuring that these solutions are aligned with the overall business vision, mission, and direction.
• Improve efficiency and level-set coverage/resources across the globe to provide service and support
• Develop and maintain a continuous improvement plan for Turnitin IT Support teams world-wide, which deliver first class follow the sun coverage for our internal customers and colleagues
• Create and drive the vision, mission and purpose for your teams, signing off on the OKRs/KPIs necessary to meet needs of the business, developing and executing strategic plans to achieve delivery. 
• Partner with our Alliance partners and customers to understand their business needs and objectives when necessary, steps in to assist the business with operational challenges as is needed.  
• Manage team performance, agreeing on clear goals and targets, reviewing performance formally and informally, giving feedback, course correction, motivation and enabling recognition.
• Enable the development of individual team members, delivering coaching and guidance as needed to enable them to achieve their full potential.
• Ensure your team is engaged in both the team and wider company strategy, goals and purpose – through regular communication and meetings/events, driving a team communication strategy so messages are appropriately channeled, and employees are engaged positively and appropriately.
• Be a thought partner and sounding board for the CTO, advising on company strategy, projects, and goals, as and when needed, helping to prioritize competing demands

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline; Master’s degree or MBA is highly desirable; equivalent experience acceptable
• 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience
• Experience building, scaling & monitoring infrastructure needed for SaaS-based applications and services
• Must be a seasoned technology expert in the area of Cloud infrastructure specifically with a deep understanding of AWS native architecture
• Must have experience with AWS billing and capacity / budget planning
• Must have experience with DevOps delivery pipelines and infrastructure as code while providing best practices including delivery risk mitigation
• Must have experience with enterprise class security standards
• Must have experience with data platform strategies and enablement
• Must have experience working with a globally distributed, cross-functional engineering, product, and operations teams
