Job Description

The Construction Manager oversees all physical on-site construction activities for the Singapore data centre new build. This role focuses heavily on site logistics, trade coordination, safety management, structural sequencing, and ensuring the general contractor maintains the critical path within Singapore's tight industrial boundaries.

Comprehensive Job Scope & Responsibilities

  • On-Site Construction Logistics: Direct daily site operations within tight industrial zones like Tuas or Jurong. Manage traffic flow, crane positioning, and storage areas for structural steel and precast panels.
  • Structural Sequencing & Milestone Management: Supervise the structural build-out. This includes deep foundation work, earth retaining stabilizing structures (ERSS), mass concrete pours for heavy transformer yards, and installing precast concrete components.
  • Trade Integration & Spatial Coordination: Lead coordination meetings to manage handovers between civil workers and MEP installation teams. Ensure clear paths for major utilities, heavy cable trays, and large piping networks.
  • Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) Enforcement: Enforce strict site safety in line with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM) regulations. Oversee high-risk tasks like heavy lifting of generators or chillers, working at heights, and confined space entries.
  • Defect Management & QA/QC Inspections: Conduct regular site walks to check construction quality against approved shop drawings. Run mock-up inspections and enforce corrective actions for any non-conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Site Authority Inspections: Coordinate on-site inspections with Registered Inspectors (RIs) and Qualified Persons (QPs). This ensures structural systems match approved plans before moving to the next construction stage.

Qualifications

  • Years of Experience: 8+ years of site construction management experience. At least 3+ years must be spent managing data centre new builds or high-tech facilities (like semiconductor plants) in Singapore.
  • Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of deep-piling techniques, precast and cast-in-situ concrete structures, structural steel erection, and heavy lifting operations for large industrial equipment.
  • Construction Sequencing Knowledge: Expert understanding of trade logic. This includes tracking structural progress, weather-tightness, and creating clean conditions for MEP equipment areas.
  • PM Software Proficiency: Daily use of Procore for site logs, inspections, and defect lists; ACC to view 3D models and resolve site clashes; and Smartsheet for short-term schedules.
  • Education & Professional Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Building, or Construction Management. Valid Building Construction Supervisors Safety (BCSS) or Construction Safety Course for Project Managers (CSOC) certification is required.
