Job Description
The Project Manager is responsible for providing full project management services and on-site construction oversight on retail construction projects, including new store builds, remodels, and tenant improvements, and to support the client as client representative in delivering successful project outcomes within aggressive schedules and operational constraints.
- Assisting the client Project Manager (PM) as required – including oversight of multiple concurrent retail construction efforts and coordination across store rollout programs
- Advising at a strategic level at the project conception stage, including providing input on site feasibility, phasing strategies, store opening requirements, and approaches to successfully achieve the client’s overall brand, cost, and schedule objectives.
- Advising upon the procurement of resources, including general contractors, fixture vendors, millwork suppliers, and specialty retail trades.
- Contract and budget ownership for assigned projects, ensuring alignment with retail cost benchmarks and rollout targets
- Creating and coordinating the detailed Project Execution Plan (PEP), including fast-track schedules, phased construction, and coordination with store operations, landlords, and mall management (if applicable)
- Proactively managing risks relating to construction execution, store opening deadlines, and HES requirements, working with the client PM – coordinating contractor actions on risk as necessary and managing the risk register
- Supporting the design process by reviewing drawings against brand standards, store layouts, and operational requirements; assessing constructability and providing construction input during early project phases
- Assisting client PM as required in reviewing and reporting on overall construction progress across retail locations. Creating and coordinating with the Construction Field Representative, the Monthly, Weekly, and Daily reporting for the construction team
- Coordinating and supporting the RFI and submittal process, ensuring alignment with retail specifications, vendor packages, and cost controls
- Creating, coordinating, and issuing effective meeting minutes and documentation for site progress meetings, Owner/Architect/Contractor meetings, landlord coordination meetings, and other retail project meetings as required
- Assisting the client PM in overall coordination of the construction effort in support of safety, QA/QC, and compliance with brand standards, ensuring consistency across all store locations
- Helping to establish project success criteria, including store opening dates, cost per store, quality of finishes, and adherence to brand and operational requirements
- Identifying and supporting that the appropriate line manager is aware of quality, safety, health, and environmental issues
- In concert with the client, supporting development of contractor and purchasing strategies, including bulk procurement and national vendor agreements for retail rollouts; responsible for execution of defined strategy
- Acting as project schedule owner (or supporting the project scheduler), maintaining detailed schedules to track critical milestones such as fixture installation, merchandising readiness, and store opening
- Conducting kick-offs and regular coordination meetings with key stakeholders (architects, engineers, suppliers, landlords, and contractors) to track progress and ensure alignment with retail timelines
- Working with project function teams to review as-built documents, turnover packages, and closeout requirements, ensuring readiness for store operations handover
Qualifications
- 8 years of experience as a Project Manager in construction, with a focus on retail, commercial interiors, or tenant improvements.
- Engineering or Architecture degree.
- Proven track record as a Lead Project Manager delivering multi-site retail projects or store rollout programs, with strong performance measurement and analysis capabilities.
- PMI certification is a plus.
- Commercial project experience required, ideally including retail stores, shopping centers, or mixed-use developments.
- Consultant experience preferred.
- Fluent in English and Spanish, to conduct meetings, create reports, and deliver presentations in a retail construction environment.
