Job Description
The Project Controls Engineer plays a key role in supporting informed decision-making across complex capital projects by transforming data into accurate, timely, and actionable performance insights.
Working as part of the wider Project Controls function, the role holder is responsible for the development and maintenance of performance reports, dashboards, and KPIs, supporting project and programme teams in understanding delivery performance across cost, schedule, and key project metrics.
This is a hands-on technical role with a strong focus on data analysis and visualisation, operating as an individual contributor with no line management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gather data from multiple sources, including cost, schedule, and performance systems, to support accurate project and programme reporting.
- Develop and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI, Power Query, Excel, or similar BI platforms.
- Work with project stakeholders to define, gather, and prioritise KPI requirements, applying structured prioritisation techniques where appropriate.
- Validate, cleanse, and transform data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of reporting outputs.
- Translate complex data sets into clear, actionable insights that support decision-making by project and programme teams.
- Support the preparation of regular performance reporting packs for internal and client-facing stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with functions across the project, including cost management, planning, risk, and delivery teams, to ensure aligned and meaningful reporting.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and improve reporting processes, enhancing efficiency and data quality.
- Provide guidance and support to end users on report interpretation and effective use of performance data.
- Maintain and develop reporting tools and data models in response to evolving project requirements.
Qualifications
- Experience working in a Project Controls, Performance Reporting, or Project Analytics role within construction complex project environments.
- Strong hands-on experience developing Power BI dashboards, including data modelling, Power Query transformations, and visualisation best practices.
- Experience gathering and interpreting KPI requirements from multiple stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of data validation, cleansing, and quality control processes.
- Ability to analyse data to identify trends, patterns, and performance risks.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced project environments with multiple data sources and stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present data-driven insights clearly and effectively.
- Practical site exposure or understanding of construction project delivery principles is desirable.
