Job Description
Turner & Townsend are looking for a highly experienced and motivated Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor to join our team, and help drive the successful delivery of world-class, cutting-edge data center construction projects in the Atlanta area.
As a Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor, you will be a critical member of the project team, responsible for managing and controlling the costs associated with data center construction projects from inception to completion. You will work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to ensure that projects are delivered within budget, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, analyze, and update cost estimates and budgets for large-scale data center projects throughout the construction lifecycle. Ensure accuracy and alignment with project goals and timelines.
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs, cost analysis, and prepare Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for construction activities. Ensure that project costs are in line with the scope of work and contractor agreements.
- Prepare tender documentation, including cost plans, and evaluate bids for contractors and subcontractors. Manage the negotiation of contract terms and conditions.
- Monitor project costs against the budget, identify and resolve any variances, and provide accurate and timely cost reports to project stakeholders. Ensure financial documentation and records are up-to-date and compliant with company standards.
- Assess the impact of changes to project scope and provide cost-effective solutions. Manage and track variations, change orders, and additional work to ensure they are incorporated correctly into the project budget.
- Identify and assess financial risks throughout the project lifecycle and implement mitigation strategies to ensure the project remains financially on track.
- Maintain open communication with project teams, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency regarding project costs, timelines, and issues.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements without compromising on the quality or scope of the project. Assist in the development and implementation of value engineering initiatives.
- Collaborate with the procurement team to source and evaluate suppliers and subcontractors. Provide cost analysis to support decision-making in procurement strategies.
- Ensure that all cost management practices comply with legal, contractual, and company requirements. Participate in audits and reviews to verify the accuracy of cost data and reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in cost management and quantity surveying, with a strong focus on large-scale data center, or relatable construction projects.
- Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- PQS (Professional Quantity Surveyor) or MRICS (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) accreditation is a plus.
- Proficiency in cost management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Sage, or similar).
- In-depth knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and risk management.
- Strong understanding of data center design and construction processes, including MEP systems, and structural elements.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
