Job Description

Experienced sustainability practitioner with a background in housing

Are you passionate about being part of the transition towards a greener and more productive future? Do you love a challenge and have a flexible approach to changing priorities?

The specialist Housing sustainability team is growing in response to rising demand for our services from government, social housing providers and public sector organisations.

We are looking for individuals with different levels of experience and seniority to recruit into a variety of roles.

You will have real experience of housing sustainability programmes that you can draw on to support our clients and deliver the net zero carbon and sustainability agenda.

Our consultants play key roles in shaping and delivering housing sustainability projects for our clients with real technical experience in retrofit, new build or sustainability monitoring and reporting.

Our people are also:

  • Positive and creative
  • Self-starters, able to work independently
  • Excellent team members, dependable, collaborative and inspiring

If you want to join a rapidly growing business where you will play a key part in shaping our consultancy offer, whilst delivering some of the most exciting and challenging sustainability programmes on a national scale, we are looking for people just like you!

Does this sound like you?

With us, you’ll be at the forefront of the net zero carbon transition of the UK’s housing and public sector. The specific role will be shaped around the individual skills and experience that you bring, with a range of opportunities from developing net zero energy and ESG strategies to project delivery support on some of the UK’s most innovative, market shaping projects such as the housing retrofit accelerators we run on behalf of national and regional governments.

If this sounds interesting – talk to us to find out more about what we do. Conversations can lead to amazing places!

What will you be doing (depending on grade and not necessarily all in one person)

  • Help deliver sector assistance programmes, e.g., the Social Housing Retrofit Accelerator, working directly with housing providers to build capacity and capability, enabling retrofit programmes to take place, saving carbon and changing lives
  • Support social landlords and public sector bodies through the delivery journey of their net-zero strategies and investment programmes, including: awareness, interest, business case, decision, procurement, build phase, monitoring and completion
  • Lead or support the analysis of housing asset data to benchmark energy performance and develop investment scenarios against energy performance and net zero targets
  • Support social landlords to measure environmental performance and put in place ESG strategies and reporting frameworks (with a focus on environment but an awareness of social and governance issues)
  • Take a lead role or support in managing projects, including client liaison, team resource and budget management
  • Line manage small teams (where appropriate) and play a key role in their professional development, helping others to deliver excellent work
  • Support the development of business cases for new services, expanding our reach to new clients, sectors and technologies
  • Assist in the business generation activity and contribute to bids to win new work.

  • Systematic approach to project management. Your experience might be from smaller projects within a social housing provider right up to extensive experience of managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects, often simultaneously and with competing priorities

  • Strong subject matter expertise of net zero, retrofit and ESG policy and strategy in the local authority and social housing sector
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to develop succinct and accurate communications covering complex subject matter for delivery to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Lateral thinker with critical skills to think creatively, problem-solve, anticipate client requirements and adopt the most suitable approach for clients and team
  • Strong relationship management skills
