Job Description

The opportunity

We are looking for a person to join our expanding Transport and Utilities business as a Senior Project Controls Engineer specializing in Risk Management. Day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Tailoring risk management approaches to meet the client’s needs and aligning with best practice.
  • Promoting the benefits and requirements of risk management within the project and programme team. 
  • Acting as the risk specialist in a project or major area.
  • Creation and maintenance of Project and Programme Risk Registers and other risk information.
  • Leading risk management activities to actively manage risk, seeking efficiencies across client’s programmes.
  • Working with the supply chain to understand and incorporate the risks they present to our clients.
  • Training and coaching clients on risk management processes and practices. 
  • Challenging risk information to ensure it is realistic, robust and stands up to scrutiny.
  • Assisting with the identification and development of appropriate management responses.
  • Facilitation of risk workshops to identify and manage specific risks and issues.
  • Producing risk reports, in a timely manner, to support the effective communication of the risk position.
  • Supporting the development of robust contingency budgets using techniques such as Expected Monetary Value (EMV) or providing inputs into Quantitative Risk Assessment models.
  • Implementing efficient contingency drawdown processes.
  • Working with other Project Controls disciplines to ensure alignment of project information.

Qualifications

  • Experience in managing risk in multiple projects/programmes is essential.
  • Familiarity with at least one risk tool (ARM, Predict! Risk Controller, Risk Hive, Xactium) is essential.
  • Familiarly with at least one risk standard or approach (ISO31000, APM, Orange Book, IPA) is essential.
  • Awareness of Quantitative Risk Assessment (Monte-Carlo) techniques is essential.
  • Experience of working in the transportation and utilities sectors is desirable.
  • An understanding of how other aspects of Project Controls (Scheduling, Cost Control, Change Control) interact with Risk Management is desirable.
  • A qualification such as APM Risk Certificate Level 2 or Management of Risk (MoR) Practitioner is desirable.
  • Familiarity with NEC contracts is desirable.
  • The ability to travel to client sites across the Southwest as required is essential.
