Job Description

As a Senior Consultant – Estimating, you will be involved in:

  • Development of cost estimating procedures
  • Manage the development of cost estimates for projects from concept through execution
  • Oversee and manage cost estimators and other project controls personnel, tasked with delivering cost estimating services
  • Review and validate cost estimates prepared by internal estimators, contractors, and technical disciplines internal and external to the client organization
  • Coordinate costing of complex projects
  • Benchmark for validation and target-setting on major projects
  • Perform cost risk analysis using the appropriate method for the estimate
  • For each estimate class, determine (from existing suite of tools and techniques):
    • Appropriate estimating techniques (benchmarking, parametric modelling, detailed estimating, etc.)
    • Appropriate estimating tool (client tools, customized estimating spreadsheets, industry estimating software, benchmarking, etc.)
    • Appropriate methodology for dealing with uncertainties (standard contingency factors, probabilistic estimating techniques, etc.)
    • Participate in updates of in-house estimating tools
  • Maintain central feedback and learning on cost estimating from prospects and projects and contribute to updating of “Best Practices” in estimating
  • Quality Control – Ensuring compliance with quality standards and participation in ISO audits
  • Taking a lead role in interfacing with the client and other consultants, at all project stages
  • Leading teams, ensuring that they deliver on all of the above accountabilities

Qualifications

  • A recognized relevant university degree in Engineering / Construction Management
  • Membership in relevant professional organizations is beneficial
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in cost estimating positions across all project phases in Oil & Gas or Mining
  • Knowledge and proficiency with cost estimating tools such as CCS Candy, WinEst and/or others (Aspentech is strongly preferred)
  • Experience of working in a consultancy or owner organization.
  • Experience of working in the Canadian construction market.
  • Experienced user of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
